Back Again and Sorry!
I am so so sorry everyone for not being on this site for so long. I have been down because my husband continues to weaken - I was also in Australia on holiday. I do hope you are not offended by my absence and vow to come back regularly.
Clearing out the flat as I am wanting to move to another area and eventually move to Australia. I qualified as a Carer in nursing homes in June 2010 :-) The training was very rewarding though challenging. I will not emigrate until my husband goes to Sleep. I'm scared of "that day" but at the same time anticipate it as I know Gordon will be at peace and not be suffering any more. He continues to have chest infection after chest infection, due to the fact that he can't swallow properly, so food and drink reach his lungs instead of his stomach. He is permanetly bed ridden. Despite being unable to talk, he still smiles these glorious warm smiles and laughs. I continue to write poetry on my experience with Alzheimers, in the hope that one day I can get a book of it published, so others in the same boat can gain comfort. I have just finished my 20th poem! Dad in Australia sadly has the same thief of a disease but it is in the early stages and he still lives at home. He has visiting carers and he is on Aricept. Unfortunately he keeps forgetting and repeats a lot, but is the same jovial, warm, funny man. A palm leaf dropped down from the trees outside his flat and I saw Dad haul it along and out of the way. As he walked past me, he said, "Want to take a LEAF out of my book?" If he bumps into a woman passer by he will say, "Sorry, shall we dance?" If he is been told to "take a seat" he says, "Where shall I take it to?" I can't imagine this beautiful charismatic man being reduced to incontinence pads, unable to walk or talk. It kills me.
Anyway, just want to say I have good shoulders and a compassionate heart so if anyone wants to talk with me and bend my ear they're most welcome. Take care everybody, and I'm glad to be back. Once again, I apologise for my absence. xx
