Baby Shower Sunday
Our baby shower was this past Sunday. My mom and sister hosted it at our house and they did a fabulous job! There were probably about 60 people so it was a nice crowd! I feel a bit overwhelmed by the generosity of gifts and so blessed that we have so many family friends that love us and that Ava will be meeting soon. My sister, who is NOT creative at all, ended up making this beautiful diaper cake made out of the cloth diapers, oneies and wash clothes we registered for. I was so impressed! My aunt made the cake which was a duplication of the invitation. So cute! We ended up getting almost everything we registered for except for all our cloth diapers (we still got a handful), our pack-n-play and monitor. The monitor I researched just so happens to be discontinued at Babys R Us so no one was able to get it. So nice of Babys R Us to send me an email to let me know. But we got plenty of gift cards to buy a big portion of the rest of the stuff.
I told my mom NOT to buy me a gift because obviously the shower was gift enough, and she doesn't have a lot of money, but as I opened gifts, sure enough, there was a gift from her. It was a blanket she crocheted for Ava's nursery with all her colors, pink, brown and white! It was kinda emotional for me because my mom has had arthritis for years and has not crocheted in years. I can only imagine how difficult this was for her. But she did it out of love AND Ava will be her first grandchild. That meant the world to me. So of course I started blubbering like a baby when I opened that gift and then of course my mom started and then my aunt. We were all crying. It was pretty funny looking back at it.
My sister and I took off work yesterday to work on the nursery and unpack all the gifts. We got a lot done but I'm tired! All her clothes and linens are washed and put away. All the clothes she got that are older than 3-6 months are separated and in bins. Her bedding, mobile and crib stuff are all on the crib. All her toys and knickknacks are out of the boxes and packages. My sister put together the bouncy seat and swing. We just have to put stuff on walls, hang the valance and sheers and put the rest of the big stuff together. I think we're right on track. Feels good. Once her curtains and stuff on the walls are up, I'll take pics and post them.
This Friday (35 weeks) we have a 45 minute u/s where we'll know more about when they think she'll come. If I'm still breech by 36, they're going to schedule the c-section at 39 weeks. It's pretty funny, my girlfriends have a started a $5.00 bet as to when she'll come and how long she'll be. Can't wait to see who wins that one.
So it was a wonderful, overwhelming and humbling weekend. Can't wait to our thank you notes out to everyone to let them know how appreciated they are.
