AWH SHUGAR
Well I suppose it had to happen:I fell off my bike.My preciuos old Schwin unseated me this morning. Not sure quite how it happened really, one minute I was pedaling away enjoying the beautiful Michigan early morning, the next I'm in a ruck on the floor. My back really hurts again now (I fell down the stairs just before Christmas but that's another story). I called my sister in England for some sympathy, I explained my mishap to her but what did I get? "Oh my God, you're not still riding that bloody old thing are you?" she replied helpfully. I went to some lengths to defend my, until now, trusty metal steed. I told her it's a 1971 yellow Schwin bicycle and a collectors item, her response was, "Well let somebody collect the damn thing then" voiced in her usual understanding way. "If you MUST cycle why not get a new one for goodness sake,?" I don't want a new one I told her. "They make them much better now," she went on undaunted."David's (her husband) has 28 gears and suspension springs." she continued. Again I explained that the 3 gears I have are plenty and I carry my own suspension in the form of a fat ass. I gave up seeking any empathy and took two more Aleve. As I once told BelleMy bicycle's a 1971 yellow Schwinn. It has 3 gears, hard, harder and hardest. Almost every time I ride it someone offers to buy it from me. They go to great lengths to tell me what a great new bike I could buy with the money. I just smile and tell them I can't sell it as I'd have nothing to ride home on. Whist they're deciding if this strange British woman is really that daft I make good my escape.
