Good morning everyone, Just thought I would write a "general" update instead of something significant. My 1st week back to work after my vacation last week was tiring and exausting. Thats what I get for going to bed at midnight, 1am and sleeping in until 9-10am. Of course, the last time I had a "veranda beach" type vacation was last year, August 2009 when I was living in that god awful apartment south of the city. My neighbors downstairs was especially loud and of course I got up early - 6-7am. what do you expect from all that screaming that 15 year old ADHD son did (she had a 14 yr old daughter but she was alittle normal). that apartment was ok but the environment was not. It was ok in the summertime when Connie and the kids were out and about but once the fall/winter set - they were home a lot and yelling and screaming was normal. There was no peace and quiet there. so last week, sleeping until 9-10am felt really good. Its nice to have peace and quiet now. My landlord left on Thursday for a vacation week with his girlfriend. He has one of his friends over to watch the dog. The guy is hardly ever in and if he does come over its late in the evening to get the dog out. I think I am back to normal now - Oh yeah sure - its friday and I'll have to start all over again on monday.
Work - This week was pretty exausting. Some of the nursing units started their student interns yesterday the 26th. Most of them will be done by the end of October. There are a few that start now but go to December. I received no crazy phone calls from the units so at least it went off without a problems. the next test will be the week of Labor day - around the 5-9. Thats when the rest of them start. I have a few that start in mid October but thats only 1 or 2 units. I wonder how this will all go about when the new building opens and we are all over at Buffalo General. Well, It won't be decided until probably the Fall 2011 or even Spring 2012 semester. At least the ER will be decided by Fall 2011 because they will be moving first before anyone else here. Its all a buzz as far as who will be taking Rosanna's place when she retires in January. I guess Diana (the one who took my BP a few weeks ago) interviewed for it yesterday. I also know the Neuro ICU manager bid on the job too. Talked to Michelle about it and she thought that perhaps Susan was planning on heading the whole Neuro ICU unit at BGH, new building. who knows? Susan is a decent person and I think is pretty approachable too. Then there is another outside person, one of the D'Youville College school of Nursing associate professors who bid on it from the outside. I like Teresa, she would bring in knowledge of school internships and would be a valuable person for me. she is familiar with the process of the student placements and internships. I feel very comfortable with her being in the position but the only thing is - does she have the neuro/stroke experience that the job entails? Hospital and school experience are two different things. I want her because of the school internship placements and would help me out. Who knows on that one. I really believe that Diane (the big boss) has a lot to decide. All bring different things to the board and will be able to fit in with us pretty good. We shall see. I will keep you guys posted when I hear other things. I also met with Diane in regards to the School contracts. When a student calls in to request an internship, they have to be bound by a school affiliation contract. this allows the school to legally send students. Back 3 years ago, when my old boss left - only a generalized orientation of those contracts were given to me. What about changes by the schools? I was too afraid to change them legally so I thought that the legal dept within our hospital system can help. Apparently, thats not how things should go. If I receive changes to the contract, I am allowed to make them. My issue is what was "allowed" to be changed. I will have to continue to send a PDF format copy to the school but if there is any changes, they will let me know. Diane and I will sit down together and go over those changes. The only thing that legal mentioned is that they would be allowed to change the liability insurance limitations (1000000/300000 limit - geez...I am sounding like an insurance person..LOL!!). It was a no big deal type meeting. I just have to take these contracts 1 step further. This is only if there are any changes. Any outstanding contracts out there will be handled through the legal department. Only if there are any new ones from this point on. I also got a new updated contract to use from this point on. Got a call that the Erie Community College school of nursing coordinator is going on leave because her husband is on his last legs - he has throat cancer (sorry norma?). she is bringing hospice. Also, the D'Youville college school of nursing coordinator left to go back as a Nurse practitioner and they are scrambling around finding different people to do her job. What a crazy time.
Anyways, Arlene, Myself, Todd, Renee and Michelle are in today. We are ordering out. We ordered from this sandwich shop called "globe market" here in the city. Their roastbeef sandwiches are out of this world. They add apple, goat cheese with alittle horseradish dressing (not overpoiering). I think Todd picked it up. Can't wait!!! So glad its Friday. Rosanna's off so she can take her daughter to college - so the "cats away the mice will play". LOL!!
I do have to work this weekend at my other job. They are sending me to Victoria's secret. Oh yeah, you guys love victoria's secret but its a "bitch" to inventory. 1st of all, the program is different. You scan all the tags, count the table (say its 256), you go into the "total", punch in 256. If your right, it will tell you but if your wrong, you have another chance to count again, if your wrong, it will ask for a code - you get the memory stick from the inventory manager and download it. That in turn, creates a report for the store people to check. Victoria's secret is difficult. Sometimes the boxes might have 800-900 pieces in the box. I had one last year that had 1200. Slightly impossible to get that correct #. Hate inventorying bra's and panties. This victoria's secret is one of the larger stores (its a double storefront) Yuck! I need to find a new 2nd job, this inventory company is all together getting too old. 10 years is a long time to be at a 2nd job. Last year, I wrote out a $300.00 NYS check. Thats outrageous. This year, I adjusted the taxes so HOPEFULLLY I won't have to write any check. Plus I haven't done too many hours for the company these days. I need to do something else, but what? what I need to do is just make enough that covers the amount lost from my student loans ($250.00) per month.
tonight will probably go out for a quick dessert with my friend Deb (maybe). She was talking about going to the elmwood Ave Art festival here in the city of Buffalo on Sat. I may just go but I really need to get my butt home sometime. Haven't been home in almost 3 weeks, except for the HS reunion which I saw my father for about a minute (he dropped off the chicken for the picnic). Not good. Its difficult to stop home because I live 30 miles away from my parents. Kinda difficult.
