August 16, 2010 Reunion weekend

Good afternoon everyone,  Today is my 1st day on vacation but more about that later in the week.
This weekend was my 25th high school class reunion.  I posted some pics from the reunion festivities on ds.  I am sure many of you have seen them.  so sorry they are so small but picked them off facebook from my friends cameras so there was no way of making the pics bigger.  The 1st pic - the one with my friend Lori and her husband isn't too bad and the 3rd pic with one of my guy friends (wayne) and the other one (I really didn't know him that well?? (Tim) was pretty good.  The 3rd pic from the saturday gatherine is kinda hard to see but I am the one in the green shirt at the end.  Too bad.  Thats all I got.  If I see anything else, i will share.
Friday - that went ok.  Got to the beachclub about 7.  My friend Sandy was at the door with the name tags.  They found pics of our high school year with our names.  I liked my senior yearbook pic so I wasn't too embarrased.  I looked the same except I had that 80's short, layered hair.  Not too bad.  Kinda hung around the front for a while to see who showed up.  I got there alittle early.  My friend Alysia came with her sister so it was a nice surprise.  Of course in the course of the night - the more popular people just stayed in their own little corner of the bar, not saying too much to people.  Excuse me - there are 100 other classmates there in the course of the night.  The only thing they said to me was "oh jeez Jen!  How are you feeling.  Is the cancer cleared up!"  Not bothering to see what I am really doing.  I really didn't want to talk about my breast cancer at all.  Of course, I decided that they would be always be like that even after 25 years.   I am just tired of being overly friendly to those people.  I tried to be more outgoing to them at the 20th but it isn't even worth it.  There was plenty of people there to talk to.  My good friend Lori and her husband was there so that made a difference.  My cousin was there with Adina (the only black girl in my high school class - told you I was a country person).  After a while there were about 70 people from high school there on friday night but there was just too many people to talk to.  By the time I realized - it was 11pm and getting ready to leave for the evening.  I figured I would catch up to them sometime Saturday or sunday festivities.  I was one of the 1st to leave friday night - 11:30.  I also had one of the longest rides home.  When I got home my landlord had his weekly friday night guys gathering at home but they were in the garage (I guess Kevin has a hangout spot in the garage - table chair, frig for beer - no wonder everyone likes to hang out here).  They weren't overly loud usually.  I am a heavy sleeper.  I went right to bed - that was 12:20pm.  It was a long day after working 8 hours and going right to the beachclub for the reunion.
Saturday - We went to this mexican restaurant that Lisa G. brother owns.  That made it easy for her to facilitate (my sister couldn't do it all!).  I got there at 6:45pm and helped a little with the set up (maybe some streamers and balloons).   It was a smaller gathering - about 30 people.  The right 30 people.   A few of the brainiacs came and our class president (he doesn't do anything for us - it was all title!  You'd think class presidents are suppose to handle the reunions.  not ours).   Don't get me wrong, Matt is a good guy and does a lot for the Angola area (he is on the school board).   My sister did a lot of the planning and set up with the slide show on her laptop/LCD projector.  It was great to see a lot of our old pics on there.  That is what we were looking at in the 2nd pic.  That pic was taken at the beginning of the evening.  It was nice to see my friend Linda and be able to talk to a few classmates.  It was difficult to talk to anyone the night before at the beachclub (there was some bar band there that was playing bad music).   My friend Shawn was there with his wife so it was nice to see her after 5 years.  She's a nice lady.  Lisa had the old 6th grade graduation program from 1979 there.    Shawn was rattling off names of people on there that we never heard from after that.  Some I recognized and some Just kinda fell off the face of the earth - might have moved away in the middle school or high school.   My cousin was there too with Adina.  Adina lives in NYC and she is some music producer out there.  Definitely typical of her.    She was leaving the next day to go back because her job.  Oh well.  It was nice to see her again.    Another person at the sat festivities was Missy.  I was her first friend in the 8th grade when she came to Lakeshore.   Of course, she was more beautiful than ever.  Brian was there,  he still is into his IT crap - he was always into the computer stuff in high school (actually he was in the BOCES data processing program).  He is also a kareoke king.  He has a business on the side.   Infact, his ex wife has PKD and knows all about it.  He wishes ill will with her though.   I guess they don't get a long.  At least he has 2 boys out of his marraige.  LOL!!  I didn't get the chance to talk to Howie but I did talk to his wife who graduated in 1986 but I knew her too.  She looks good.  Her brother went to school with us but didn't make it to the sat festivities.  They served us mexican fajita buffet for our meal and it was really good.  I went to this resturant for lunch with my friend Jim (graduated in 1980 - Eltasche if you come visit me, you will meet him).   It was over by 11:30pm.  The restaurant was closer to Cheektowaga.  I went to McDonalds to get a chocolate shake and the person accidently made another one and gave it to me for free.  I put it in the freezer to eat another day.  That was nice of her.  I was home by midnight.   No...Kevin didn't have another guys gathering on saturday (he is young and most of his friends are single - he is 10 years younger than me).  He went to his girlfriend Jens (she is a nice girl!) overnight.
Sunday - I woke up at 9am.  Called my friend Tom and told him I would be over at 10am for the picnic (I invited him with me to that one - he would be bored on fri and sat - he is not exactly a party animal).  Got over there and left at 11am.   We got there at 11:30 and my sister was alone there at the pavilion.  No one was there yet.  I forgot that Angola-picnics do not start promptly at the scheduled time.  She said the chicken lunch was coming at 1pm and everyone would be coming after that.   the 2nd person to come was Tim (I still do not remember him....how in the hell did he get into the pic  LOL!!). then Lisa N with her 12 week old mini dausch hound (so cute and little), then Sandy.  Then Dan and Chris came together (I had a huge crush on Chris).  Dan was nice but I really didn't know him in high school but he came up to me and talked alittle bit (he said "your my facebook friend!").  That was really nice.   I completely forgot to bring a dish to pass but there was so much food there it wasn't even needed.  That was my mistake.  I even forgot to bring drinks.  (I can't believe I forgot - it was such a crazy weekend).   Thats ok, I drank water anyways (better for me, right my PKD friends  LOL!!).  Tom seemed alittle bored after awhile.  He is kinda difficult to bring to gatherings so I hardly ever take him except for some family things.  he had somethings to do around his house so we left at 3pm.   We were one of the 1st to arrive so it was natural to be one of the 1st to leave.  I wonder how long the picnic lasted.  I am sure until 6-7pm.  People coming in and out during the course of the afternoon.  I even grabbed some chicken to bring home for dinner this week.   Maybe tomorrow - I am still chickened out (LOL!!  You know what I mean...eating chicken too many days in the row - NO!  I am not chickened out by the reunion).
Anyways, I am glad that reunion weekend is overwith.  There defintely a lot of good bad and uglies.  Apparently I heard that this one bitch girl who was there on Friday was spreading remors that she was at the girls gathering (I couldn't go because I had to work my 2nd job) and that Kelly, Lisa and Joy were saying about different people's pics whether they were "sluts and not sluts".   That didn't happen at all.  They were just commenting whether they were gay or not gay.  Kinda playful.  I wished I was there it would have been hilarious.  She was a bitch popular girl, closed off (never said hello to any of us but her popular friends in the corner).  Kinda crazy, if you ask me.   Besides, She looked horrible and didn't age well.

I never went to any of my school reunions, but we all do stay in touch on facebook, so that is nice! It is nice to know I am about the only one that didn\'t \"let herself go\" LOL

Glad you made the most of it and had some fun in the process! Enjoy the rest of your vacation!
