August 11, 2011 - general update

Hello everyone,
Life has been though twists and turns this past month and a half since I returned from Denver.  After my write up, things seem to calm down alittle bit.  I am taking things one day at a time.  Doing my best to communicate and share with my other team members.  Giving Jen feedback when its needed the most.  Doing my best with these nursing instructors from the RN schools to make sure they are getting their required classes in order to each.
We are going through Electronic medical records (yep, our hospital was still doing the paper method).  I've got instructors from 2 different hospitals needing this class.  I have been going above and beyond to make sure they get their classes in.  Our children's hospital is going though this right now - so its often difficult to get a hold of these training people so I have left millions of emails to get these instructors enrolled.  the class is August 19.  I have been trying to get these instructors to 1. get their access #  2.  enrolled in the class and make sure they remember to come.  3.  communicate with the instructors, college coordinators, Jen, IST training education.  Hoping these instructors will remember to come to this class.  Everyday for the past 2 1/2 weeks I have been after these instructors to contact me.  I am still getting a few that came out of the woodwork that need to come to this EMR class.
Our hospital site is closing March 29 2011.  The new global vascular building will be open in November where Buffalo General ER will be in operation.  Our er will still be open at my site.  What they want to do is move the whole hospital in 5 days!  The skilled nursing facility is opening up their new building in December.  They plan on moving these people the 1st week of December.  Excuse me!  That weekend is noted for huge snowstorms and cold.  I certainly hope they know what their doing.  I would have picked the weekend before thanksgiving.  I don't know....Whatever.  They are trying to get us to do an equipment inventory (phones, desks, computers - stuff like that).  I have been working on this all week.  I finally got done - 9 pages and about 15 rooms on 2 different floors.  I was upstairs today for almost 2 hrs.  Now I have to type it up and have the director of nursing review it.  I think she will be happy with everything I did.  I already am aware that Jen will tell me that "oh this was forgotten, I was so embarrassed to present this to her"  You know what, Diane has been extremely grateful with what I do for her.  I do not believe anything Jen tells me anymore.
I called in last monday - for reasons due to running fatigue.  Happens....do too much and you suffer for it.  Sonja tells me the next day that Jen wanted her to pull my time.  I am thinking, ok - she won't find anything wrong.  She comes into my office on tuesday and tells me that I called in 5 times (we have up to 6 call offs and the 7th is a verbal warning).  Can you believe it!  I have no idea what her intentions are.  Guess what, I will come in tired, sick and burned out from now on. I took the conversation as, ok I have 5 call ins.  I told her that no one has ever called me on my sick time.  I don't abuse it.  The last time I had 7 calls offs was back when I worked at VNA and called off 1 too many times.  I learned myself from it and continued on.  Rosanna and Cheryl never called me up on it.  EVER! Makes me wonder if she is looking for something on me.   Sonja and I talked yesterday - she does not bring her staff up with compliments to make us feel better about our work.  She also came in and showed me a rush job I did for Diane - I unintentionally left out a site on the form (it happens, she gave me the typing things on a sticky note!!!).  Of course, she took the page away, just another paper trail item for the employee file.  This has got to stop.  Its getting so ridiculous.  I am continuing to document as much as possible.  Its interesting, now that we are having these staff meetings every week (which is a great therapy session for me, because I always come out feeling better about everything - it turns into a bitch fest between Sonja and I (not between us but in the department, Jen and educators - we both agree about everything going on).  Arlene is only part time and she isn't bothered by Jen at all.  She really hasn't shared too much at the meetings about things because she only works 2-3 days a week.  She does a lot for Diane.   Arlene told us in confidence that she is not happy with Jen and the way she is micromanaging me and Sonja.  I worry that we might evenually lose her soon (I know, she is 70 years old but we love having Arlene around - she's like this mother to us! she is like this feel good person when she is around working).   Even we haven't heard a peep from the educators.  Of course, before the meetings these educators were bitching about this and that.  At least we finally got them quieted down.  there still is a trust factor with a few instructors.  Lots of backstabbing.  I am hopeful things will cool in the coming months.  Right now, I have low esteem due to my work performance and seems like I am suffering because of it.  If there were jobs within the system to bid on, I would.  Knowing that Jen is leaving a papertrail in my employee file doesn't sit pretty with me.  I cannot believe her if she gives me a compliment (hardly).  I don't know what Im going to do.  The rate I am going, she's gonna have a papertrail on me 20 pages long by the end of this year.  I feel like I am never gonna win.
On to my running (I want to talk about that now, so I won't feel down getting off the computer).  Things have been going moderately lately.  I have been hitting the streets this time around.  The humidity finally cracked here in western NY.  Those of you east of me - if the weather goes west to east - the humidity and 100 degree weather will break in the next week or so.  We have been doing 3.5 miles but the running vs walking is different.  9 minutes of running to 30 seconds of walking.  I still walk, sorry to say.  I am working on more running than walking.  Not easy.  I did 4.5 miles on sunday - to me, it was a bit much.  I didn't feel all that great going out.  The change of route didn't help matters.  I finished in 1.09:25.  I walked more than I ran at the last 1/2 mile.  I did not run on Tuesday night with the no boundaries group (they were still doing 3.5 miles).  1 more week of 3.5 miles.  It is getting a lot easier.  But they are jumping to 4.5 miles 2 weeks from now and no walking (yes Bri, they are doing away with the cowbells).  What happened to 4?  Its difficult to do 4-5 miles, especially since its my 1st year back to running.  I really wasn't planning on doing a 5 mile run this year.  I know they want us to do a 6 mile long run by the end of Sept.  I probably will not get there this year.  I think I will keep with the 4.5 mile route (Maybe 5, depending on how I feel).  the wed night group is alittle different.  We had about 40 people show up.  A few walk/run people from the beginning no boundaries came wed.  Where were they these past 3 weeks?  It was nice to have someone to run with for 2 miles.  Her name was Laura.  She was nice.  The past 3 weeks, I've been doing my own thing because everyone but threw me in the dust, I came back about 28 minutes and left 5 minute later so I never really got a chance to talk to people.  This time, we did 2 miles but everyone else did 4 so they came back faster. So I was able to have some conversations with people in the group.  tomorrow I will run 3.8 miles and sunday I will attempt to do 4.5.  I need to get out early on Sunday - by 8am because my family picnic is at 1pm (give myself time to relax after the long run).  Everyone, have a wonderful weekend and I will check in with you.
