August 10, 2010

I am still feeling really good so far.   I read a lot of what everyone else is saying on the PKD support group and find it very educational.  I did my 24 hour urine culture last week.  I went down to the hospital lab here and they bring out this huge 2 qt brown jug and told me to pour my urine in the jug everytime I went.  To come back tomorrow morning at 8am and get the rest of my blood work.  Great!  I laughed at her when she brought it out.  ok...this is gonna be quite interesting.  I didn't have a large enough cup to use at work so I would just use a smaller plastic cup, pee in it, hold it - pour it in the container, pee again, hold it - pour into the contrainer.  I had to do that for 8 hours.   When I brought it home, I had a taco bell plastic large cup which worked perfectly.  I had no problems filling the thing so hopefully they say that I have high volume urine on the test.  I am still waiting for those results to come in the mail.  My nephrologist said he would have my reports sent to me as well.  Which is good.   I am so glad that is over with - that was a lot of pressure.  I worried that I was gonna miss and forget.  I do have to do the 24 hour urine culture again around the 1st week of October but this time its the fasting.  I have to think about how I plan on doing this.  I may take the day off.  Its difficult to do this on a sunday because I might be scheduled to work my 2nd job.  Unless I preplan it.  That might be an idea.    Its not like I don't have the PTO time.
My sister Kelly came into town from Denver CO on Friday.  tried to call home but turns out they went out to dinner.  she tried to call me back later in the evening but I didn't hear the phone (I have it on the lowest setting).  I fell asleep on my chair and woke up at 2:30am.    too late to call her then.   the next morning, I went to take a shower and my mother called to say that she was picking my grandmother up from the nursing home with Kelly and we were going to my great uncles cottage with the rest of his family.  My 2nd cousins (they use to babysit us - we use to know them very well growing up because he lived right down the street from my grandparents).  It was really nice to see them.  My brother was already there with his beer, talking to my great uncle.  Kelly said that the 3 of us were going to the corn festival for the evening.  She wanted to see the pagant and I was to come with her (I know...I am such a follower!   I had no contrete plans for saturday).  We left there at 5:30 and went to the corn festival.  We got there about 6:15pm, had a quick hotdog at one of the stands and a $2.00 ear of corn (mmm...that was good!).  My brother went to the beer tent to find his friends (he knows everyone in the town of Eden, NY!).  Kelly and I went to the pagant.  Kelly was Miss Eden Corn festival 1984.  I think the last time I went to that pagent was when she gave up her crown in 1985.  It changed alittle bit.  They had the junior and the regular Miss Eden corn festival contestants so it seemed like they had a lot of girls.   I pegged the junior winner from the beginning.  The actual winner for the regular girls neither of us didn't pick at all.  First off, the judges - they only had college graduates who were 23 years old and they were all rugby players.  Can't you stand it!  We were just shocked that all 3 judges were rugby players.  I really could understand 1 of them.  It was so ridiculous.  I guess you just had to be there.  During the pagant, this one contestant with a strapless green dress during the evening/interview questions decided to "hike herself up" while she waited to get her question.  It was quite embarassing to her, Kelly was laughing so hard she was crying.  I felt so bad for her.   After the pagant, we went to find Kevin at the beer tent but he was at the most crowded one there (they had more than 1).   Kelly went to text Kevin but he couldn't get a signal and came out after Kelly went into the crowd looking for him.  We stood outside to talk to his 2 "girl" friends that he hung out with (they were sisters who worked at the same company as he did in Angola).   As we walked out, we saw one of Kevin's buddies Paul that he use to hang out with when we were younger - he looks exactly the same.  It was great to see him after all these years.  He was like a brother to us.  My brother is extremely close to his brother Tom.  We were there until 9:30pm, Kevin wanted his fried dough and we walked out while he was eating it.   There was alot people still coming in even at 9:30pm (probably the locals).  We got to park for free at Kevin's friends house.   Kevin and Kelly went one way and I went back to Cheektowaga.  I didn't do anything on Sunday - just laid around did nothing but catch up on some DVR.  I didn't even feel like getting on the computer Sunday.  Just one of those days.  I was so tired from being gone all day on Saturday.
Work!  One of the nurse coordinators from D'youville College school of nursing calls me stating that one of the nursing units from Children's Hospital is closing.   she was alittle freaked out - she had heard from one of her instructors.  I immediately called the nursing units that are affected and got nowhere.  I called one of the nurse educators and she said that it was being renovated not closing.  They were moving to another unit until December.  At first, I was ok with it.  Then I realized that I had students coming to that unit 7 days a week and about 4 different nursing schools were affected on this.   I called the unit manager who inherited the renovated unit and she was so nice to me and easy to talk to.  Told me that it will all work out and she was willing to help out as needed.   She was going to talk to the unit manager who's unit is being renovated and to see what she plans on doing.   this is becoming a nightmare week because I need to contact the managers with their student rotations before I go on vacation because a few of these school rotations start on the 1st day I return.   At the children's pediatric hospital site, it is quite heavy with students  - I schedule the students on each and every floor.  I am not happy that they didn't contact me and let me know this was happening.  They should have done this right when it happened.  Why did I have to find out from Pam?  She isn't even a Kaleida Health employee.  Jeesh!   anyways. I will go ahead and inform the managers of their unit assignments tomorrow, thurs and friday by email. Each manager will get an email. thats 5 hospital sites - units.    It will take me about 3 days to do this.   Unfortunately, I will inform them and hopefully they won't have any issues while I am gone.  Because if there is anything wrong with the early rotations, I won't be able to fix them in time.   I will be glad when the fall semester starts.  Once it does, then I can relax alittle bit.
I am on vacation next week Aug 16-20.  This weekend is my 25th class reunion.  Graduated in 1985 and was a glorified band geek.  Proud of it too!!   LOL!!!  I will be back on monday and give you guys full detail on how it went.  I am crossing my fingers on this one.  I was exactly popular and didn't have a lot of friends - I just knew people through my goody too shoes, student counsel present sister Kelly.  I was always Kelly's sister and always got the same comment "you don't look anything like your sister".  I wonder how many times I will hear that this weekend.  I will have to count.  I will let you know how much.   We can all laugh about it later...LOL!!!
Catch you all later...love to you all.
