at home

The last few days have been an emotional experience.  I usually keep my emotions at bay but during the Al Anon meeting ~ I could feel my emotions surfacing.  One of our members is ~ what can I say ~ the nearest to an angel you can imagine.  Her son is in jail ~ in the medical ward ~ in a bad way. He's very sick.  He wanted help so badly that he broke a building window and waited for the police to haul him off.  All along this angel of a mother made sure that her son knew he was loved very deeply.  He is in his late 20's and has been through numerous treatment centers and once in jail and, until recently, he was on the streets.  He always knew, however, that he could call his mom and she would meet him somewhere and bring him lunch, comfort, and prayers.
And ya know ~ I wasn't going to go to Al Anon until she called, telling me she was going to be late and wanted me to tell people the members that she would because she was to be co-chair. She's a Godsend.  I'm glad I went.  It's been a bit difficult with J and his horrible strep throat infection and surgery.  Now he's on Perocet. Doctor said (because I told him of my son's drinking and past pain medicine experimentation) that he'd only give him a "few pills".  40?  Compared the Vicodan - I guess it's a "few".  I'm concerned about the potential "side effects" but what to do?  He's in a lot of pain.  Pray.

it\'s amazing that when you get the support, one feels they can let go a little, and feel the feelings. And it\'s a good thing.
Peace with you. I have no idea how he will handle the Percocet, but I\'ll bet the whole bottle will be mysteriously used during the recovery. But who knows, there may be a lot of pain involved, with that much of inflammation and infection.
I remember when my son had his wisdom teeth out, we filled an Rx of something strong, and when we got home, he wheeled into the bathroom and when he came out, the whole bottle was empty. He had taken all 10. And it didn\'t even put him down. I was going to raise a ruckus and call the pharmacy, sure they had made a mistake, but he said to let it go. Huh. When I figured it out, i just said oh well, now he doesn\'t get any more, and if it hurts, it hurts, Payback.
Sorry to sound to callous at a time when your son is recovering. It just triggered a memory.
I\'m sure you can use an encouraging word, and will just say, Hang in there.
And we\'re all worth it.
