It is important to learn how to change other people's behaviour towards you. People can be difficult to live with and sometimes cause conflict. Those who are able to solve conflict situations in their daily lives seem more successful.

Internet sales, and home businesses require a certain level of expertise to change other people’s behaviors.

It is almost impossible to change behavior when you are in conflict with someone without assertive strategies.

For successful human interaction, assertiveness skills are essential.

What is assertion?

It is an effective tool to assert your rights. It is possible with assertion to alter behavior in a way that everyone involved in an interaction can benefit.

In a conflict, assertiveness skills allow you to communicate your feelings, opinions, and preferences without being demanding, punishing, or threatening to the other person.

You can use the word "assertion" to say:

1. What I feel

2. What I'm thinking

3. Here's how I view the issue.

In the context of a sales interaction or a conflict, asserting yourself can also allow for respect, fairness, and the opportunity to compromise.

Use of assertive techniques has the following message:

Your wants and desires

You understand the wants of others

Your thoughts about their behavior

You must understand the behavior of others.

Assertion, when combined with being honest about what you want and feel will give you a high level of self-esteem.

It is rewarding to learn to say no in a way that doesn't lead to conflict, or escalate the issue at hand.

No longer do you need to hide your emotions to avoid an argument or "hold your mouth" for fear of causing a conflict. It is not the content of what you say that is the problem, but rather the way in which it is said.

Correct physical posture and delivery of information can resolve even the most challenging interactions.

A softly modulated tone, minimal gestures, and an open stance can all help resolve conflicts.

Assertion is sometimes confused with aggressive behavior, so it's important to always be on the lookout for misinterpretations.

Always remember that assertiveness skills can lead to a win-win situation. The only way to avoid conflict is through aggression. When aggression leads to either conflict or withdrawal, you will not succeed in your endeavours.

Keep healthy relationships by being assertive

We have all been in a situation where we were forced to take a certain course of action. As we cannot express our opinions and stand up for a cause, we end up in uncomfortable situations. We end up feeling low in self-esteem, and taken for granted.

In a situation of conflict, we can adopt one of three attitudes

1. The act of aggression is when one puts their own interests ahead of those around them.

2. The act of passiveness is to put the needs of others ahead one’s own.

3. Assertiveness is the ability to deal with conflict in a respectful manner towards yourself and others.

Assertiveness, out of the three attitude types, is the one that can be learned. It contributes to personal development. Knowing your needs, rights and wants, and then asking to have them met is what assertiveness means. It is important to be assertive in both directions. In all of your relationships, you must also acknowledge the other person's needs, their rights, and their goals.

We need some simple tools to master averstance, and we can avoid any unpleasant situations.

We should use body language to project calmness and alertness. Direct gaze, with head raised and a clear firm voice help to convey an assertive appearance.

Assertiveness is preceded by an introspective look at one's own beliefs and attitudes. We often need to reprogram ourselves in order to fight aggression. Predicting other people's behaviors and planning our responses in advance can help us feel more confident in dealing with an uncomfortable situation or maintaining healthy relationships.

* Love yourself, and accept your flaws. How we are perceived by others is an indication of our own self-perception. Don't punish yourself for mistakes, but give yourself credit for everything you have achieved.

Use "I" statements to communicate your needs. When articulating rights and wants, the proper use of voice modulation and language is a powerful tool. You can make the other person understand and agree with your viewpoint by asking them if they have understood.

You should learn to "No" with firmness. We often take the easier way out and agree to a situation that could be distressing. Then we spend hours beating ourselves up for it. It is best to always say "no" in a situation of conflict. You can then take your time and review the situation. This gives you the option of saying "yes" instead, in case your decision changes.

By practicing and remembering all of the points above, anyone can become a confident individual who commands respect and cooperation. In any situation, assertiveness with courtesy is key.
