If your child is doing a clay sculpture workshop, please bring a smallish cardboard box to take their sculpture home in. This is a great activity for the whole family to join professional illustrator Samuel McNair in sketching at the Sydney Bus Museum. Filled with buses of all vintages, sizes and colours you'll be shown simple tips and techniques for drawing buses. Presented as part of the GreenWay Art Prize which is on exhibition at the Sydney Bus Museum 29 October - 13 November.
According to Professor Kiki Smith of Smith College, garments preserved in collections are resources for study similar to books and paintings. Scholars around the world have studied a wide range of clothing topics, including the history of specific items of clothing, clothing styles in different cultural groups, and the business of clothing and fashion. The textile curator Linda Baumgarten writes that "clothing provides a remarkable picture of the daily lives, beliefs, expectations, and hopes of those who lived in the past. We run an art activity for an hour at your venue or ours, and we provide all materials and art aprons.
If your child already has art materials don't rush out and buy more. Have them bring what they have to class and the tutor will let you know if anything else is needed. The school will generally provide - one canvas per term, and other specialist materials such as clay or large format paper when required. It offers a wide variety of high-quality arts courses and classes, all led by specialist tutors and practising artists.
