Are there any Furries on here?
I was just wondering...
I got on here and was surprised that there were not more people of the Furry Fandom on this site. It might seem bad of me to say, but, from my personal experience with the fandom, it is riddled with mental illness. Most Furries struggle with depression...they feel shunned or odd. I have found that a lot of them keep their fandom a secret, and that's because the world still likes to be ignorant about what a Furry is :/
Being a Furry has nothing to do with bestiality or zoophilia (as most people tend to believe). It's a massive misconception...the Furry fandom revolves around an appreciation for anthropomorphic animals. It's an appreciation of art, and it uses animal characters as a form of expression via online chat rooms, video-games, and etc. It's completely innocent and it's harmless.
Now, like any fandom, naturally there are those that fall into that dark area...yes the Furry fandom does contain Porn, yes, to some, it is considered a fetish, and yes, there are people who join the fandom that would be considered sketchy, but it's very rare, and the fandom will often shun them if these people are found doing anything illegal that would give furries a bad name.
The Furry fandom is not all people dressed in costumes. In fact, only 12% dress in costumes and it's not mandatory you have one to be considered a Furry. While the fandom has become more mainstream and less secretive over the years, I still see a lot of people being bashed for being a Furry, being bullies for being a Furry, and even parents punishing their children for being in the fandom, liking it, and having friends within the fandom that support them. I see so many people that feel as though they have to "come out" to family and friends when being a Furry is not as big as maybe coming out as Gay or Trans...Furries should not have to "come out"...but unfortunately, ignorance often prevails because, even the media does not do a good job of promoting the Furry fandom in its true light.I guess it just seems weird to me because this site has helped me a lot in alot of ways. I joined a Furry group with only 3 members and while I'm not so sure they stayed Furries or just left the site because no one else joined the group...I personally would like to see more Furries utilizing tools such as this. Hm...it's rambling, I know...but...I just really found it odd.
