April 8, 2011 - Group run
Good morning,
I joined the group again for our Thursday evening run around the 2 hospitals again. It was a great day yesterday - highs in the upper 40's. I still had to wear a sweatshirt and knit pants. It does get a little breezy around the buildings. About 15 people showed up this week. One of the mentors commented that the nicer the weather the more people don't show up. He was the mentor that ran with us the 1st week. He had the runners this week so I haven't seen him too much except at the end. We did 1.5 miles this week, 2 min run and 2 min walk. I didn't do too horrible this week. Still ran in the back of the pack but not too far back - somewhere in the middle. We started a small loop around the cancer hospital - uphill, then came around where we started the previous week for the mile. I tried hard - made sure my sneakers were tied tight. I was in the middle of running and one of the other people mentioned that my shoelaces were going untied. She ran right past me! I was in a stride. I should have fixed it when I was at a point where I was walking. Next week its 2 1/2 min run and 2 min walk. I think I will start to work on this on Saturday when I get back to the gym and do treadmill work (I've gotta get the digital stopwatch - I need to get outside and train!). Some of the others are running 3 minutes and walking 1. I think I am going to incorporate using the rowing machine at the gym (at least until the weather warms up so I can go rollerblading). Probably do 20 minutes tonight. I can do this either wed or Fri.
I asked the mentors if they do the training runs in the summer time (after this is over with) and in the fall. I'd be interested in continuing afterwards - maybe becoming a mentor. I might as well continue to run as long as I can. Who knows what the future holds with my PKD process. So far, I am feeling really good. Especially after reading about others in the support group being in pain and sick all the time.
No slider change this week. Next friday I should be able to change the slider.

Great job Jen. Way to keep it up! You might want to see if there\'s a Road Runners Club around where you are. The one that I belong to has runners from all skill levels, from straight walkers to elites who have gone to the Olympic Trials.
Keep it up! You can do it!
Jenn,
You go Girl! You got the right attitude and doing all you can to stay in shape is important. So glad you have a local group to train with. I cannot run anymore, but I can still walk so I am walking a mile to 6 miles on nicer days. I don\'t have any group or even know of one in my city but I like walking alone. It gives a person time to think, relax the mind and just enjoy the outdoors. I think you would be a great mentor Jenn especially with your background as a runner. Well Congrats for now. Hopefully we can get some warmer days.
Great Job!
You are doing so good. I\'m proud of you! Keep up the good work!
