Appreciating a Man's Contribution to Relationships

A man deeply desires to be acknowledged and appreciated for all the things he does for his family. He doesn’t need to be lavished with gifts and money, but rather a simple verbal acknowledgement of his contribution to your relationship that will remind him that you are committed to him and his success in your life. Appreciation is a key tool to creating a positive, healthy, loving, and lasting relationship.

Men often go through life feeling unappreciated. If he doesn’t feel valued, he may stop trying. Expressing your appreciation for his efforts and achievements will encourage him to continue to work hard in the relationship.

Appreciation can be conveyed verbally or non-verbally, depending on the situation and your comfort level. Men are more responsive to compliments about a particular characteristic or behavior than they are to general compliments about his looks or personality.

Specifically, men like to hear compliments about how helpful they are or how much they care about others. A compliment about his thoughtfulness will make him feel that he is your “ultimate winner” and will motivate him to keep doing what he does to win your love.

To test the impact of appreciation, researchers surveyed 316 African American couples over 15 months to measure both expressed gratitude (telling your partner you appreciate them) and perceived gratitude (feeling that your partner appreciates you). They found that the more you express and feel your appreciation, the more satisfied and confident you are in your relationship. Those who had high levels of both expressed and perceived gratitude experienced the least decline in their relationship satisfaction or instability during stressful times such as financial strain or ineffective communication.Appreciating a man's contribution to relationships
