Any intellegent life out there?
In September 2010 I changed my PCP because my former PCP was not up to the task. She had made several mistakes, not the least of which was diagnosing my pneumonia asĀ sudden onset Asma and prescribing me an inhaler. She was reluctant to make referrals that I asked for, and needed, and I spent two miserably sick years because of her.
My new PCP referred me not only to a psychologist for a psych eval, but had me get MRI's on the rest of my back and referred me to the MRA center, who can properly diagnose what is wrong with my back. The MRA physician referred me to a surgeon after reviewing the MRI on my lower back, because I have a serious, degenerative spinal injury.
The surgeon showed me the damage to my spine, which was the result of a childhood fracture that never healed, as well as showing me the broken piece of my spine, the pinched nerve caused by the vertibre which slid out of alignment, and the damaged disc on both sides of the vertibre.
I saw my new PCP yesterday, told her what the surgeon had told me, and she decided that my back problems are the result of smoking.
My surgeon had imperical evidence to back up his assessment of the situation. My PCP had only her personal opinion to back her up.
I have surgery on the 16th of February, and after the surgery and subsequent follow up's, I will once again be searching for a new PCP. Telling me that my spinal fracture is a result of smoking is nearly as rediculous as the chiropractor telling me that all my problems were the result of eating potatoes, dairy and grains.
I need to find a doctor that is actually smarter than I am and at least a little competant.
