Another year
So we made it through another year. I don't know how I feel. I guess empty would describe it best.
We took Cevyn to the airport a while ago. She is now on the plane on her way back to Ottawa. I enjoyed having her here but she is a typical teenager - touchy at times, sulky at times and delightful at other times. I wish we had teens around for her to hang out with but I do not know of any here. My friends are all nearer my age.
Cevyn did enjoy visiting with her Aunt Tiina and Uncle Andrew. They both have off the wall senses of humor. It was great seeing her smile. But without Lisa, I feel she is drifting away. We call her several times a week and she seems to enjoy it. She knows she is loved, so that is what is important. Joe and I both cried on our way home from the airport. It was NOT supposed to be this way.
We went downtown to the outdoor party last night. It was a disappointment. Cevyn is not a country fan (neither am I) so we were not thrilled to hear that Johnny Reid was going to be playing. Serena Ryder was also on. I don't mind her but Cevyn was not too impressed - and again, I am sure she would have had fun with kids her age. We came home before midnight to watch the fireworks from our condo. They were a disappointment. I think there must have been a glitch because there were only 2 that went up. We weren't too upset because we had already watched the early ones at the zoo. We had a good view from our kitchen window.
Today, we had some neighbors over for brunch, along with our son and DIL. It was chaotic but fun. Cevyn was busy packing in the living room so it was a big mess. Luckily our friends are not fussy so I was not bothered.
Now we are looking forward to The Galapagos and Peru. We leave on the 16th.
I don't know what to think about another year but with my SOTH, I will carry on.

My d.i.l. won\'t even tell me where my grandson is studying. My granddaughter, her\'s also, is 16 and leading a very austere, religious life. Aside from the fact that they speak Hebrew and French and we speak English and Spanish. It\'s awfully hard to keep up the relationships.
These are my Jacob\'s kids and they mean so much to us. Hoping that with adulthood, maybe we\'ll get closer. But different countries and cultures, it\'s very tough. and languages, too. So I know it\'s hard on you with your dear child, but believe you me, it\'s easier than for us.
Hoping that in the years to come these children continue to want us in their lives. My husband is making a book about their father\'s life, and soon it will be ready to send to them. Hoping it will help.
I could cry that these are his kids, so very far from us and so very loved.
It is good to spend time with Cevyn. Teenagers do have their moods. You have a great trip to look forward to. Galapagos!!!! Have a good New Year. Hugs, Peggy
Glad you got to spend time with Ceyvn, and yes, teenagers are a breed all their own aren\'t they?
Sorry the festivities weren\'t more exciting and fun.....sounds very disappointing. What a shame.
Now, the anticipation and excitement of The Galapagos and Peru!!!! WooHoo! I can\'t wait to hear all about it....and please post pictures once you return. Joe is an awesome photographer and I know the pictures will be amazing!
Have a blast, stay safe, remember you are loved, and FEEL Lisa with you each day!!
Love and hugs, Teri
You described teenagers perfectly and I\'m sure that time spent just in the same space filled you all. It is such a hard age to be and I even remember those years and how basically uncomfortable I felt in my own skin.
Grateful you could share this time together and yes, you are so right... It\'s not how it should be for one moment and I\'m glad you could allow those tears to flow.
I\'m sure your days will be filled planning for your wonderful trip as I do believe we all need things to look forward to. What a grand adventure!
Loving care always dear Marlene to you and your precious family. Lisa, is well loved and I like getting to know her through you.
Tight hugs,
XO Joanie
It\'s hard entertaining children, that\'s on advantage I have, Jim\'s girls are always around to play with Athena when she is with us. But of course Ceyvn really isn\'t a child any longer, but you know what I mean.
You have a very full life Marlene and a lot of loved ones and friends share it with you. This is so very wonderful. Enjoy your trip and I\'ll be looking for pictures and want to hear all about the trip.
Happy New Year, Terry
I agree, Marlene. It is not how it was supposed to be. Lisa should be here but I know she is grateful that you and Joe are here for her daughter. Cevyn knows you love her and she will come around. My grandchildren get distant sometimes too and it hurts. I do think you are right. Some of it is the age & her not having any teens to hang with but it is good she enjoys Andrew and Tiina\'s sense of humor. Enjoy your trip. Much love to you and dear Lisa, Linda
Our NYE was rather subdued too. Corrie\'s long time boyfriend, Alex, and his friend (also a close friend of Corrie\'s), Brad, came over for a visit during the afternoon and when they left Rick and I both felt like washed up old fuddy-duds. Oh well.
We enjoyed a quiet evening at home, watching Times Square on TV and then the fireworks around the Seattle Space Needle ~ which were really quite spectacular. Your experience this year reminds me of Seattle a few years ago when something happened with the computer program that was supposed to time them and nothing happened. Nothing. And then there were the fireworks in San Diego, I think last July 4th, that all exploded in one gigantic BOOM! So much for auto-pilot and computer programmed events!
It\'s a drag, but on we go ~ welcoming in yet another New Year without the joys of having Lisa and Corrie with us physically.
Sending much love and big New Year\'s hugs of peace and comfort ~ Debbie
We will all carry on together. We stand strong together. Your friend, BW
Marlene my one and only resolution this year is just to make ti through the year. On this journey that is the best that we can do and it is just perfect don\'t you think? I am glad that you were able to spend time with Cevyn and yes she may have been bored at times but you all made some new memories together and that my dear is what life is all about! Your upcoming trip sounds wonderful, so please be gentle to yourself and enjoy every minute of your trip I hope that you have a great time making new memories, hugs....Kathy
Yep!!! We made it through 2012...How in the heck I made it through, I don\'t know, yet I did. Just by the grace of God, family and friends.
I am so glad you are taking a wonderful trip. The recent cruise that I took seemed to help my mood. Just having something to look forward to helps.
Teenagers, they are all over the place, with their different moods. Hard to believe that I used to be one, lol...
((((HUGS))))....Julia
I am dreading the teenage yrs, I am just happy now the girls are 7. So much easier, I know my time is coming. Enjoy your trip, it sounds so interesting. Keep us updated....
Hugs Penny
Marlene, I\'m glad you got through the Christmas stress and so glad you had this chance to spend time with Cevyn. Don\'t worry too much about her moods. Girls especially live on an emotional rollercoaster.Even girls who haven\'t lost their mom. I have 4 granddaughters 13 and under (and one grandson) but you never know who\'se going to be happy, who\'se going to be sad and why. Just enjoy every moment and make lots of memories and remember as she gets older she will realize even more that you and Joe are her connection, to Lisa. She will always need you in her life.
I hope you have a wonderful holiday and make a bunch of great memories with Joe.
