Another Old Friend, Passes

Yesterday, my wife and I were on our way to get our daughter's Birthday cake we had baked for her.  I got a call on my cell phone from my old friend's daughter.  She was crying and said the Drs. had told her that it was a matter of time for her dad.  She asked me if I could come to the hospital.  I was headed in the opposite direction in another county but, I immediately turned around and headed for the hospital as fast as I could.  We arrived at the hospital and went to his room.  He was under oxygen and was resting as though he was just sleeping.  His daughter give us the update from the Dr. report and we were standing there talking.
I looked over at my old friend and he took a deep breath.............then, he never took another one.  I looked at his daughter and said "he's stopped breathing".  She looked at him and I ran down the hall and got a nurse.  She came in and checked him and yes, he had passed away.
He was 95 years old, had a great life.  He always came and heard me preach at his church on special occasions.  I remember he once told me, "I didn't know there were any preachers like you, left anymore"!!!!  I had known him for many many years.  I preached his brother's funeral and his nephew's funeral. I was glad I was there with him and also to be there for his daughter as well.
We stayed with his daughter till others of the family were notified and until family members began to arrive.  I called his nephew and notified him.  We haven't been notified of the arrangements yet.  They will probably be Friday. His is now, spending his first Christmas in Heaven.
