Another night of broken sleep,I feel very tired
Good morning journal, the time is now 8:26am and I have been awake for what seems like hours having been awakened on at least six occasions in the night, twice for seemingly no reason at all,and four times because of Buttons our oldest dog who suffers with an upset tummy due to her advancing years. At this present moment in time, our home is silent and our canine brood are curled protectively around my slumbering wife, and my"bionic ears" are still in their respective cases,I do so enjoy the quietness of early morning. My deafness was something I never really thought about much over the years,I had an accident which rendered me unable to hear very well,I was totally deaf in my left ear while my right ear had only very minimal hearing if the person speaking to me was very close, like right next to my ear,and even then I only heard their voice in a whisper like quality. However, thanks to the huge advances in medical science,I am now able to hear in my right ear,and while my left ear remains devoid of any sound,I can feel vibrations which alert me to something happening on my left side.My accident also left me blind in my left eye with the result that I have almost been run over quite a few times simply because I forgot that my left side was useless as regards vision and hearing.Today,I have the choice between remaining deaf, which allows me to concentrate without interruption,or hearing when I wish to,and it seems a very strange thing to say,but I really believe that I have the better deal over a hearing person.I had a very long and hugely rewarding career as a professional singer, and for the whole of my thirty two years in the entertainment business I was deaf,I kept that fact hidden from the audience by learning to lip read very well,I still lip read very well and still engage in it today, but the biggest advantage that I had over the audience was that I couldn't hear me when I sang,so no matter if I was good, bad or indifferent,I was under no pressure, and I guess that I must have been relatively pleasant to listen to as I always got paid.Even when people in the audience came up to me whenever I had a break,I managed to hide my deafness,as long as they faced me and spoke normally, which people do when they don't realize you can't hear,I was able to read what their lips were telling me and hold a conversation with them just as a hearing person would do without thinking.Of course today it is different, when I have my ears in people realize that I have a hearing impairment because of the plastic tubing fed into my ear canals, but why oh why do they think they have to yell their conversation at me?,either that or they talk to the person with you,if there is someone with you that is,and expect them to translate for you,if you are speaking to me then speak to me,I am deaf but my brain still works efficiently enough to understand English whether I hear it or read it.When I sang,I wore a very thin soled pair of shoes and I was able to"hear" whatever song I was singing through the beat that I could feel through the soles of my feet, and I was also extremely fortunate to be blessed by working with some exceptional and talented musicians who knew I was deaf, obviously I had to let them know, and they would count me in by hand signals which helped me enormously. The other advantage that I had was that my speech was unaffected by my deafness,as I had normal hearing until I had my accident at the age of nineteen,my speech had fully developed so didn't change when I became deaf,a person who has been born deaf usually has a distinctive speech impairment because they have never heard how words sound,so that helped me hide my deafness too.Anyway, this morning I feel very tired, this may be due to the amount of times when I awakened in the night,or it may also be because I decided to follow a suggestion by my wife that instead of taking a dose of the anti psychotic drug quetiapine/seroquel in the morning and then one before bed,I should take both of them in the evening before I retired as the morning dose leaves me feeling tired and groggy during the day, perhaps I will try her suggestion for a day or two more before I finally decide which is best for me.As for yesterday,my wife and I spent a very pleasant day together, both of us were relaxed and at ease, and there were frequent little hugs in passing that were for no other reason than to say"I see you,and I'm glad your here",not a bad day really, all things being considered.Hopefully, the rest of today will mirror the events of yesterday and we can be grateful simply for being the couple that we are,and that no matter what,or however hard life gets,we have us,and that my friends makes us formidable as a team, and with that bond between us,we are virtually bullet proof.Until next time journal,my little fellow stays on good, let us hope and pray that the sense of peace and contentment that is almost tangible in our home this morning remains present for the remainder of the day,and as one of Charles Dickens characters uttered in one of his books,"may God bless us,every one".

Wish you peace and admire your spirit.
Scott, I would love to read your novel when complete. I am sure it would be quite interesting. My daughter recently completed her 1st attempt at a novel. It\'s a chick book but I read it because she wrote it, and I think she did damn fine. I do admire how you have adapted and overcome your hearing lost, it is quite amazing. It\'s this same determination that will carry you thru life\'s other issues. Please take care, Bill
