another Christmas done

That title sounds a bit cynical but it is how I feel.  I have been very introspective for the last while - or perhaps self centred would be a better term!  I was very disappointed that I couldn't be with family.  Poor me.  Yadda yadda.

Well it all turned out to be a pretty good day.  When I feel really bad I cook.  Our neighbours were alone for Christmas too so we agreed to do Christmas with them.  She would do turkey and I would do veggies.  So I made a beet salad, creamed spinach with deep fried cheese balls on top (sort of like mozzarella sticks), roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes and dinner rolls.  Around noon my neighbour called and asked if I would like to go to the nursing home to visit a 90 year old lady who has no family.  I know Doris well so immediately said yes.  It humbled me.  Her health is failing and we doubt she will be here for another Christmas.  The look of joy on her face was sooo worth it!  We took some Christmas goodies and had tea with her.  2 hours flew by.

Sometimes I just need a kick in the butt to realize that my life is okay.  Of course I miss Lisa dearly and cry a lot, and wish I could be with my family but it really is just a day.  We had a mini Christmas before we came back from Ottawa with Cevyn and her family, and we are going to Edmonton in the new year to have a late Christmas with Andrew, Tiina and her family.  The glass half full means we get 3 days to celebrate!

What does 2017 hold?  Who knows but today, life is good.

Lisa:  Was it you who gave me a butt kick and told me to smarten up?  If so, I needed it.  I am sitting here wearing one of your Aston Mobile Spa shirts and feeling content.  Of course, I miss you always and love you forever,  Mummy

Thank you for sharing. You really touched my heart tonight. I don't like feeling the way I do about being glad when Xmas is over but I am sick and tired of it all. There I said it. That was really nice of you and your friend to go to the nursing home. I know you miss your Lisa and we will always miss our children. Hoping for peace in the new year for all of us....Hugs to you, Nell

How wonderful going to the nursing home....I remember my mom and my grandma visiting....it always meant so much to those less fortunate and are unable to be @ home. You're awesome!

I am total agreement with you in regards to Christmas - I have always struggled with it (parents divorce has had something to do that, I guess) but now that my mom and daughter are gone - I am doing the happy dance when it's over. My husband doesn't get it, he hates when I say "I'm glad when it's over" but the truth is I am....We all do what we do to get through, but in my heart of hearts I'm with you.....

Hugs.....Vicki

I think your butt kicken worked out just fine. I am happy that you had a good Christmas and your new year will be very fun watching those babies grow and learn to crawl then walk. Just keep that in your frontal lobe when you get down.

Sending warm FL hugs

Marlene, your dinner sounds delicious. Glad you had friends to spend Christmas with.

In your defense Christmas and other holidays are different now for us SOTHS. I have mixed feelings on holidays. Grateful and enjoying the grandies while in a parallel reality feeing so empty. Buts it ok. I feel like we can grab the good moments and honor the other feelings too. Does that make sense?

Going to visit the elderly woman was such a kind thing to do. I find that it helps me to feel less sad when I reach out but honestly some years I just don't have it to give.

May 2017 be peaceful and filled with joy with Joe, Andrew and Tiina, Cevyn and those two little dolls!

Loving you and dearest Lisa, Linda ♡
