Another Birthday
Yesterday was my birthday, and the first calls started regarding my foreclosure in Maine. The bank called, and asked me to give them my social security number over the phone, although their number was blocked, and I would not do it.
I was shaky after this call, and after I collected myself I got out the paperwork and called to begin the "deed in Lieu" proceedings. This is a way for me to turn the property over to the bank instead of waiting for the foreclosure to come about.
It is just a faster way to get foreclosed upon, really. The sooner the better, I say, because it is inevetable, in any case.
But later that night, around 7:00 pm, the bank called again, and I spoke with them. They asked me a bunch of questions, most of which I answered, and they actually qualified me for a "loan modification", despite my telling them that I could not afford to live there in the first place. The expenses I incur here have nothing to do with my expenses there, after all.
I think that it was a trick to get out of the "deed in lieu", which I have to guess is somehow to their advantage - although I do not see how. I cannot afford to live there, even without the drain on my resources that my brother caused - the damage has been done. I am simply in too deep. The debt is too great and the expenses are too high.
The woman on the phone asked about cable and electric, but did not ask about heat - she asked about taxes and insurance, water and sewer, but it was all confusing and I'm sure inaccurate. Qualifying me was surely just a trick to try to get me to keep to the loan agreement and I cannot.
I only had 2 people wish me happy birthday in person - and received no presents at all. This is usual. Today I noticed that several people wished me happy birthday on facebook, also usual.
It was a depressing day, all in all.
