Annoying Reality
I decided I should call work and let them know I wanted to be put back on next week's schedule. When I left I did say I was just probably going to take 1 week. (Boss was worried I may take all my vacation time - 3 weeks left) I called and boss was off today-- just the newbies.
It happened that the guy was in earshot from the girl I was speaking to. I asked her to ask him if there was a new schedule?--- " yes." Was I on it?--- "eventually , yes" Ok. I asked if I was due back on Mon?. " I don't know. Tell her to call back tomorrow". I hung up as annoyed as I am everyday I work with the asshole. And more than likely Monday will be one of those days.
It has been very relaxing to not have to worry about being cautious since it has just been me. It has also been good as I have had time to reflect and come to understand more about myself and my struggles with issues. This brings one up that I will soon again be dealing with--- working with others who do not share my mindset or work ethic--- and while it annoys me- I have to learn how to deal with it without it affecting ME and MY WELL BEING. This older guy believes it is his job to be a stand up comedian and that some very stupid and idiotic things are funny. Also is trump like in that he just says what he thinks (completely discounting how it comes across to anyone else. Both he and boss have compassion of fleas) He is a good worker-- but on his terms in his time. Not a second late for every break.... usually taking 10 minutes to start to work as he is chatting while getting stickers for his stuff he brings from home.
I do plan on speaking up as he starts the day pissing and moaning then wondering why I am annoyed. I need to stop letting the assholes affect my day. JUst leave them and their attitudes roll off my shoulders and keep a positive outlook . Any suggestions are welcome here.
I will go back and do what I can and need to for the customers. (and just need to be careful and cautious in doing so. ) I do plan on breathing and enjoying these last few days away.

I am always surrounded by people who only see the worse in every situation. The kind of people who would tell me I was wrong for giving flowers to someone, because that someone yelled at their kid too loudly in the hall 10+ years ago. Maybe this comes off as condescending or ignorant, but I try to look at everyone the way I'd look at someone who is in recovery. I'll pretend they're in the early stages of Complaining Anonymous and haven't worked on their resentments yet. And then I can relate, because I've been there. And then I can tell myself "I don't have to feel the way they feel or believe what they believe" and put on a genuine smile. As a cook, if someone really gets to me, I can pull out the big knife and chop something really fast. Is there a timeout you can take at your workplace?
Ha. I actually wind up doing some prep work too at times. Also have a big knife and have used that to my advantage. Hee hee.
I need to take my breaks but usually work through them and I stay a bit late if I know they will not get all done. (I do take a half hour lunch and do look forward to that reprieve. )
They serve their time and are gone. If anything...I should be angry at myself for not choosing to do that....but it is how I am and choose to be.
I need to realize that others think differently.
You are right about seeing them in recovery....most could use it but will never seek it out....just continue to be asses.
People deal with fear in different ways. It could be that's the way he deals with his. If people watch the news every night then they are getting a daily dose of fear because that's all they focus on but regardless, I always avoid people like that.
I am sure everyone is overwelmed about this and is doing the best they know how to do. I think that you are doing a great job of handling things especially after going through a difficult time in your life with the loss of your husband. You are a great example for others through all of this. Many here admire you for all you have been here and how you have turned your life around and continue to do so by getting rid of the small things that do not serve you. Keep on keeping on, my friend!
God Bless
Some guys feel like they can say whatever is on their minds. In most cases they don't hear themselves so they don't understand just how stupid and immature they sound. For some it's just poor manners and others excel at being an asshole like this guy you work with. That being said how does your employer feel about your contribution to the business? As long as your pulling your weight it doesn't matter what he thinks. Sometimes a co worker can be a great guy and still be a prick. You worry about # 1 and don't let people like that rent space in your head. Yes this virus is nasty business and we are not used to sitting idle for so long.
By all means enjoy your personal time. It's spring time. Life's to short otherwise.
My employer and supervisors as well as store mgrs. are content with what I do and how I do it. They know I will give it my all and do what I can . Those 2 (one asshole-one poor manners. lol) have at times made me feel like shit because I do things differently than they do . It should not matter what they think or say-- but I have struggled so hard to reach a point where I can finally understand it is from their issues and not necessarily something I did or did not do. In the past those type of messages cut like a knife. (I suffered from verbal abuse long ago)
I have gone above and beyond often and all appreciate that. In my mind as an asst, I want to do all I can to help the mgr and the customers. (unfortunately in my case my immediate mgr--and the AH-- can take advantage of that) and I have occasionally found myself taking a step back. In the end I will try like hell to not let them "rent that space in my head" There are far better things to think about. Thanks
