Anniversary Today
Today, July 20th is my 39th wedding anniversary. My dad married my wife and I his living room. My sister and bil were our witnesses. We were the last couple he married. He went to be with the Lord in 1979. We were blessed with a daughter in 1976, on Christmas Day.
Both of us came from bad pasts. She was a former motorcycle gang president's girlfriend. She was also a multiple rape victim. She had a 4 yr. old son from a teenage relationship. I was a Biker, a drug user and an alcoholic, when we met. Had I not met her when I did, I would probably not be here today.
We were married in 1974. I had came out of a terrible 10 yr. abusive marriage. I trusted no-one and suspected everyone.
I had worked in the oilfields for 12 yrs. and my wife got me a job where she worked at a printing plant. I moved up in the ranks quickly and became a supervisor. I became a Dept. manager with the company and was transferred to a new plant in the Southern part of the state. We both made good money.
In 1985, I had a nervous breakdown and had to resign my Managers position. This cost me 1/3 of my wages and 2/3 of my benefits. The plant closed, due to union issues and we both lost our jobs. I got a job with the company who purchased the plant bldg. but, at 1/3 the wages I had been making.
In 2005, my youngest son, by my first marriage, was killed in a car wreck. My first wife treated me like a dog at his visitation and funeral.
In 2007, I retired and moved back to my home town to Pastor a church. In 2010, my first wife was diagnosed with cancer. I went to the hospital to see her. She fought it till Jan. of this year but, passed away Jan. 10th. 2 days before she died, I went to visit her at the hospital again.
Through the years, my wife and I have lost both our parents. We have survived financial difficulties as well as family issues, etc. My wife has stood by me, through it all. Now, we have a wonderful church to Pastor, a great congregation and, we have been blessed with 3 grand-children from our daughter and I have 7 from my older kids. We are truly blessed.

Congrats to you :) That is a major milestone. Just so you know. You beat yourself up a lot about what you haven\'t done friend, but you have done so much more than most people do in their entire lives. You have lived like 10 life times and you are so selfless and giving. I know I have said this before but I am honored to know you. Being borderline I have a hard time saying things when they choke me up emotionally( because it is overwhelming) but you have been there checking on me throughout my stay here at DS and have shown me unconditional love and support. You have shared some very personal trials and pain with me and I admire you for having the ability to be so open and honest about your life, even when it makes you vulnerable. That takes a lot of courage and I admire you for it, because i have such a difficult time doing the same thing. I admire you for the service you provide for your fellow man. From what I read and what I see, you actively seek people to help, actively care and do so without judgement.
May you and your wife have happy times ahead and may peace follow you my dear friend. You are a diamond. I would like to send you some art:)
