And we wait some more...
Just FYI: this is a pregnancy update & me whining about prenatal care, so please feel free to skip if you're not in the mood...
Yesterday, we went in for my 12wk OB appt and, later that day, to the MFM doc for an u/s and cell free DNA test (to check for chromosomal abnormalities like trisomy 18 & 21, etc).
As per usual, the OB was just ok. Rushed and not very informative. She didn't seem to know why I hadn't had certain blood tests done (even though I explained to her that they had already been performed at the fertility clinic). This is why it sucks to rotate through a host of doctors at an office. There isn't the level of communication I'd hope for -- and certainly nothing like the cooperative efforts of my IVF team. Who would've ever thought I'd hearken back to the days of IVF and remember them with wistfulness & nostalgia?! But seriously, that team is the BEST and clearly unrivaled by any of the general OB practices in the area.
Yesterday's OB visit was about 5 minutes long, most of which was spent hunting around for a heartbeat with the Doppler. When she finally found it, she listened for about 10 seconds, casually said "it's somewhere in the 150s," switched off the machine, and told me to set up my 16wk appointment. I REALLY hope this lady isn't on call when it comes time for me to deliver. She also did my initial HSG test. For those of you who have had one, you KNOW how uncomfortable (& downright painful) it can be. Even then, at my FIRST encounter with her, she was totally unsupportive. She found a blocked tube (which I later had removed, due to a hydrosalpinx) & curtly said, as she walked out of the procedure room, "well, you can still probably conceive every other month." Which was entirely untrue, as it turns out.
Then, the afternoon brought better & more thorough care... At the MFM clinic, we got to see our plum-sized babe jumping around and kicking and turning uncooperatively away from the u/s tech. She had me cough and turn on my side and empty my bladder, but nothing seemed to work. This babe is shy or anti-social or something! ;) My husband was adorable. I turned to look at him when the baby popped up on the monitor... I could've picked his jaw up off the floor! I think it was the first moment this became "real" for him. :)
We opted to go for the more reliable cell-free DNA test over the NT screening. And the kicker? The wait for the results is TWO WEEKS! Yuck! How come my life seems filled with the 2ww? I expected the initial one before my beta, but pregnancy is just a series of 2 week waits, over & over & over again.
At this point, I'm THRILLED to be pregnant, am feeling great, and am happy I've made it this far (13 weeks tomorrow) without incident. The next hurdle is just making sure this babe is healthy. I think I might finally be able to exhale once those results come in. And maybe then I'll feel comfortable to share this news with my friends, as we've only told very close friends and immediate family.
Oh, and PS: With the cell-free DNA test, we will find out the sex of the baby!!! At 15 weeks!!! Pretty amazing! So, I guess there IS one thing I won't have to wait an eternity for! ;)

Which NIPT are you doing? I\'m doing Maternit21 and the turnaround time is 7-10 days!

CALL THEM. I found out on day 11 because I called and asked if my results were in yet!!!
