And the Off Again/On Again continues...
Both my daughter and her ex are now working full-time. They continue to do their dance with each other--hang out, fight, one chases while the other plays hard-to-get. In the meantime, Isabella has gotten closer and closer to my husband and me. She gets excited when "mom" and/or "dad" come by, but at this point (at 3 years, 4 months) they are on the periphery of her life, not central in it. And that, unfortunately, is probably where they belong and will always stay. Bio parents asked to take her to a lake to go canoeing. They did not want me along and I didn't think Isabella would enjoy the experience. We nixed the idea and took her ourselves to a local fair. She had a blast in the bounce house and getting her face painted. I didn't get a fight from either parent about the non-trip. They both came by that evening to visit briefly with Isabella. I just know the bio parents are both going to show less and less interest in parenting as time goes by. Part of me is hopeful they will both just move away. It would make life so much easier for my husband and me.
