And in 3, 2, 1.... email sent!
MAN, I'm a COMPLETELY different person than I used to be prior to this neighbor thing! Because then, I was unsure of myself, felt very vulnerable, was afraid to be alone and TOTALLY insecure - especially because of the divorce. But now that the neighbor thing has changed all that, I've strapped on my protective armor and pulled out my sword (imaginary, of course), and by sending out an email I move into battle with my family and one of the major banks about my inheritance.
I'm taking my time... I spent the last 3 days thinking about this and came to a decision today as I took the dogs back into the forest for another walk to those healing waterfalls. MAN, it's so beautiful and peaceful there - and again, we had it completely to ourselves. I had to decide who to approach first, how to do it, and how to protect myself in the process. And so by sending this email, I'm raising questions to the family (especially my aunt who was appointed trustee), and I'm gonna raise red flags to the trust's attorney and the bank holding the trust that I'm watching for fraud. Which is EXACTLY what I'm doing because during my divorce this same bank DID defraud me with regards to my joint account with my X when they falsified documents (I was told I was signing to close the account - that's not what it was). They then back dated those documents to hide the evidence and basically I was screwed (don't EVER just sign on one of those computer screens, and read everything THOROUGHLY before signing the actual paper, ok?)... and is that problem over? Nope. Because my X kept my name on the checks which makes me STILL liable for anything he uses them for (I know this is true - I go after unknowing spouses in my business all the time). My attorney said that it would be a long difficult battle that I would probably lose if I went after it right away because of how well they covered up the fraud, so I've dropped it there... at least until I get word he used those checks and THEN I'll have evidence I'll need... but that's a whole different battle that I'll deal with in the future if it's necessary.
And now, with regards to the inheritance, because none of the documents I received state that this bank gets to force me to keep my money with them... nor does it state that the trustee or the trust holder or it's attorneys get to retain that money, I'm about to stir things up.... I keep telling myself it's MY MONEY... MY CHOICE... I DECIDE... and I learned Friday that they have to have this done within a year (which will be January 16th) so I'm already gonna be tightening the screws a bit...
So I've decided to just begin with basic questions... and I feel like I'm planting a minefield of explosives. Hopefully I won't be stepping on one in the process.... Wish me luck! LATER!

LUCK!!!!!!! LOTS AND LOTS OF LUCK!!!! You are doing the right thing. There is nothing wrong with reading the fine print or in asking questions!!! Your doing great!

Ask your questions. Double check everything and run it by an atty. I\'ve never heard of requirements like that. It\'s your inheritance and you should be able to do whatever you want with it.

Good for you, if don\'t protect yourself, no one else will.
