An Unbiased View of Indoor Playground
If you live in an area like we do in Western New York (we are in Rochester!) With superbly warm summers and cold snowy winters, you will understand that your options for your kid's birthday celebration are largely dependent on the weather.
As an August baby, we constantly had small family parties out at my house. However, with sons born in November and March, we're always left to reserve an indoor jungle gym venue for their parties, if we chose to have them that year. While those with kids with summer birthdays may seem blessed to have so many choices at their disposal, it may also often feel overwhelming.
While at Climbing Vines Cafe and Play we might be biased since we host indoor celebrations, I wished to discuss with you the 5 most common reasons we hear from past celebration customers to book indoor summer birthdays with us. To these, the stress-free temperament of the indoor summer celebration is really a no-brainer, and they are not looking back! Following their initial indoor summer celebration , they keep hosting with us year after year.
The most common cause for a customer to book a summer indoor party with us is so they do not have to stem the weather prediction for upgrades in the weeks leading up to the party. Nothing can derail a fun celebration quicker than having to cram all your guests within your home, waiting for a storm to pass. And if you've ever needed to cancel or postpone your child's birthday because of weather, you know how heartbreaking that can be.
We receive dozens of calls every summer a few days before somebody's outdoor celebration is supposed to happen to find out if we have an open slot for them in our indoor celebration place because of weather woes. We can usually pull off this if the spot is open, but hosts will sadly have to scramble and allow all their guests are aware of the change in venue and likely shift in time, and change all their catering requests to accommodate their new party plan.
While of course rain is likely the largest obstacle you might face, extreme warmth, unseasonably cool weather, and wind may also pose issues for your food, decorations, and your guests' possessions. You'll probably find yourself investing in a tent another weather barrier simply to ease your mind a bit, which are costly and take lots of precious time to set up and take down. I won't even tell the narrative of this time my Dad put up a tent for a party in a windstorm and ended up with an insurance coverage for 4 ruined cars when it withdrew (weights and anchors and all!) ...
Aside from the obvious weather worries you can avoid with a indoor party, there may also just be something so simple and lovely about a indoor summer party. Guests won't need to be worried about bringing towels and sunscreen and towels and swimsuits and changes of clothes and bug spray... you get the picture.
Sometimes it's wonderful to take a brief break in the outdoors, sip coffee in an air borne cafe, and have a real conversation with other adults while the kids play, rather than chasing kids around trying to get their hat on them keeping them away from your in-ground pool. I am not sure about you, but I could never quite relax at an outdoor summer birthday celebration with a two and a 4 year old. While they sure do have a fantastic time running around, we typically leave in a daze or with a tantrum, unsure whether we even had time to chat or check in with everybody.
While I absolutely adore a good barbecue or summertime grilling extravaganza, I also find it so refreshing when we can take a break from the same-old backyard celebration and spend a couple of hours at a relaxing, cool, and most importantly-- included! -- atmosphere.
It is also freeing as a guest to have the rest of the day to do as we wish as a family and not have to be concerned about getting the kids to a tub right after the celebration or stopping home to cool off and change clothes.
I guarantee that if you book an indoor celebration for your child, guests (particularly family) may seem a little confused at first (why not just take advantage of the summer weather while we could, right?) But after hosting countless indoor parties I can tell you for certain that on the day-of, you and your visitors will realize how pleasant it can be to kick back within an air-conditioned private party for a few hours.
Speaking of how relaxing a indoor, air-conditioned party could be, how can we talk about food for a moment?
Therefore, for our family, the meals factor alone would be sufficient to warrant an indoor celebration.
Eating in peace without needing to find shade or a seat or a location away from pests is just one of those things that you do not realize can be so glorious before you attend your fourth or fourth outdoor summer gathering and THEN get a break from them. One of the most common things we hear is how nice it is to just sit and eat and watch the kiddos play with no any other venue-related cares or concerns. This is going to be particularly important if you're going to be having elderly family members attend who can battle with being portable in the grass or mud and finding seating at outside parties.
Plus, when was the last time you attended an outdoor summer party with a full espresso bar and cafe available for visitors to enjoy now they don't need to worry about running around chasing their kids in the warmth?
4) DECOR OPTIONS GALORE
While celebration aesthetic may not be a determining factor for every family, it sure is significantly easier to make a themed extravaganza that lights a child's face up when the party's indoors. The decorations demanded are often less because the place is smaller and contained contained, and you won't need to worry about balloons and streamers blowing all about or securing table covers .
Because we do host cellular events outside in Climbing Vines Cafe and Play, I can also speak from experience when I say the time that it takes to install (and take down!) Decorations for an outside celebration compared to a indoor celebration generally ends up being double. Finding good places to hang banner, requiring two people to maintain and protect everything, and finding weights or other restraints for everything can be a true hassle on party day.
And you will have enough to be concerned about this day, right?
Furthermore, if your pinterest boards are filled with cute centerpieces, a candy bar, or anything that may be impacted by wind (or bring bees!) You will likely have to restrategize to get an outdoor soiree.
Not to mention decor typically can only get used once if used outdoors, but repurposed again and if used for an indoor event. Our guests that host indoor events, especially those who spent significant money into decor or labored hard to make their own, are very happy to find they could usually create a huge chunk of the money back by reselling their supplies something such as Facebook Marketplace.
5) YOU MAY ACTUALLY SAVE MONEY
Speaking of cash, probably the biggest misconception I hear from customers is that they wish to sponsor a party at their house to save themselves the rental fee of an indoor space. I generally laugh at this because it makes perfect sense, in other words, if you have never hosted an outside party.
With all of the"extras" like tents, chair rentals, additional decorations, weather reinforcements, cleanup supplies, games and activities for your kids (that you won't need to supply at a play place!) It is very likely you are going to end up spending MUCH more hosting a party at your house or an outdoor place than you'd indoors.
I'm not sure how other indoor spaces handle their equipment, but we just charge guests for additional drinks and supplies and such on the day of the celebration should they end up needing themand we also allow parties to bring in their OWN food, dessert, and decor if they choose!
Money aside, spending countless hours cleaning before, during, and after the party may also have a toll. Would not it be nice to walk into a sparkling clean space and leave with your guests once the party's over, not needing to worry about the clean-up, garbage removal, tent teardown, etc?
It's possible to just go home and relax with your family (yes, possibly outside!)
In addition to the time spent cleaning before and after the party, would not it ALSO be wonderful to not have to play"server" during the event? Even for customers that make their own food and decor, our dedicated party assistants set up everything, refill and mend food and drinks as necessary, clear plates, cut and serve the cake, and package up all the leftovers at the end of the party!
After all, it is your child's special day and you want to spend those precious hours making memories and visiting with your guests-- not running around chasing your decorations or refilling the fruit bowl innumerable times.
So save everybody (and especially your own family!) We'd be honored to offer you an easy, enjoyable experience which will leave your entire guest list feeling refreshed, grateful, and filled with love after spending a relaxing (yet fun-filled!) day together.
