An Attitude Adjustment
Today is my day off. Ahhhhhh........Except that I have to go in to work anyway and try to fix the broken computer...or buy a new one and spend hours setting it up, reloading software, backing up and reinstalling files and whatever.I have to go down and set up a job listing for an opening I need to fill, like...yesterday. I'm feeling sorry for myself. That is not good.... As I was sitting here feeling sorry for myself....the thought also came to me that eight months ago, I would have been sitting here getting ready to sneak off to go gamble.....and I realize I have a lot to be thankful for. I'm not broke because I'm not gambling.I have the money to buy a new computer if I have to, because I'm not gambling.I can go down and set up the job listing because I'm not still asleep after being up all night gambling. I can think through what I have to do, because my mind is not exhausted from sleep deprivation, because I'm not gambling.I can choose to tackle instead of choosing to escape dealing with things.... because I'm not gambling.....I can solve problems, and move ahead....yep...because I'm not gambling! It is just amazing how NOT GAMBLING continues to impact everything in my life. Every challenge, every problem, every obstacle....is made more overcomeable because of this. My mental, physical, and financial resources are not being squandered, thrown into the black hole of gambling. I think I'm starting to feel less sorry for myself!I can do what I need to do to face "life".... Sometimes I just need an attitude adjustment!Sometimes I need to get off the pity pot and look at the blessings and resources I have! Sometimes I need to remember I have things to be thankful for, and think about that instead of sticking my head down in a pool of all the bad stuff! A person can drown in a pool like that! I am....what I choose to think about....what I choose to value.....what I choose to do..... Right now, I choose to think of my gratitude for all the health, resources, friendships, and love I have in my life.Right now, I choose to think of all I CAN do, all I DO have, and I choose to feel OK.In fact, being grateful....means that I choose to be happy....with where I am right now....with a life that has NEW possibilities. Among many other things....I am grateful for all of you....my friends and companions on this journey. Much Love to you all......Dianne

Thanks, I needed that. I too am grateful for all the things/people/blessings in my life, and all of those things are now visible to me, why?? because I am not gambling. Enjoy your day off, no matter what it turns out to be.
Your attitude adjustment rubbed off on me too! I\'ve been feeling down and in a foul mood because of self pitty. I\'ve been on my own for a long time and have made it so far, with gambling. Now that I\'m not gambling I can overcome the problems I\'m facing. I too am thankful for what I have, as little as it may be it\'s more than I had when I was gambling. I am thankful I have friends like you! Thanks! Peace and Love. Patty
This is a wonderful JE - thank you for that little - nudge. I needed it too.
Gambling and the pain it brings came gradually into our lives. It eventually took over and consumed us all when we were in action. When we stop gambling it is remarkable how different we feel. It is instant really - then it changes into a new understanding - I am so proud of you and how you examine your own life and keep challenging yourself - YOU GO GIRL!
Hugs and love to you Suzi
Negativity is contageous, and so is a positive attitude. Thank you for sharing yours! I think we all need to focus on the good, and sometimes it is very hard to see, but it is there. I needed a big reminder today- I know I have so much to be thankful for in my life. And it is so wonderful to see how far you\'ve come and how you have learned and learned to cope. You are truly an inspiration.
Thank you for sharing. You have found tools to keep you away and this you should be so proud of. Even though life seems to suck at time you have one thing beat and that is staying gf. Big hug Nicky
D,
Thanks for reminding me of all I have to be grateful for, I was on the pity pot this morning too. Bad mood don\'t know why just cause and now I see I am just wallowing in self pity, not a good place. I have so much to be grateful for and that includes all my friends here at DS.
Thanks
Tessa
that was great... how much we can win if we don\'t gamble. all that time spent chasing with gambling... I never have figured out what the end game was to be a winner at it.
I just admitted that I lost that bet and choose to play a different game, my life. The payout is awesome.
