An aquaintence

I just found out tonight that a guy I know (but don't particularly like)has a huge problem. He quit drinking a few years back, but didn't succeed. He has lots of money, he retired from one job and found another, both very good positions. A few days ago we had a heavy rain storm. This guy's daughter phoned him to see if he would help fix her leaking roof. He was drunk. His neighbour offered to help, so off they went in the company truck. He ended up smashing up the truck and hurting the neighbour who offered his help. He was charged with DUI. Apparently this guy now can't even go into an establishment that serves alcohol. What a waste. It's times like this that I feel so fortunate that I have made it and I don't have to worry about the greef that this man has caused. I can only imagine the pain and embarrasement that he is going through. He will probably lose his job, definately his licence and everything that he has earned over the years. I guess that the most important thing he lost is respect, from his family and himself. I actually feel guilty because I am happy that it wasn't me, and at one time it so easily could have been.
