Amazing Grace

I am seeing amazing things lately and I am in awe and so very grateful
The other day (very hot day) I came out of Wal-Mart and a lady hollered over to me and said "you don't have a hanger do you? I locked my keys and purse in my car." I said "I do have a plastic hanger (had been to my son's doing my laundry) but I don't have a steel one." Anyway, she had left the window cracked and as she tried and tried to push the unlock button, it wouldn't quite work. She was using my phone to call a friend when a big ole' OLD white truck pulls up and a girl leans out the window and says "do you need help." I said "the lady locked her keys/purse in the car and we can't get them out." She said "my boyfriend may be able to help her." Out of the old beater truck he comes; dirty old torn up clothes, scraggly (sp) hair and yep...no teeth. Judgment kind of set in on my part. As he was working away on getting the keys out (which he did) I was talking to his girlfriend/friend/wife telling her what a kind thing they were doing, she said "he loves to help people!" He expected nothing...just grateful he could help. I walked away from this situation thinking how there are such good in people in the world; how I need to still keep working out non-judgment; and how wonderful the Universe is. Great day and great learning lesson.
Next....You all know what an issue I had with a girl at work called Shelly; didn't speak, was rude, not nice to any customers but her own, etc. We have fought, not spoke and at one time I almost left. As I continued my inner work, I got where it didn't matter if she spoke any more, it didn't matter how she acted in the shop and it didn't matter what her reaction was to me. I spoke and it didn't matter if she spoke to me or not. I realized thru the years, all those things she did and was to me, I had at one time done the same thing, so it became a matter of self-forgiveness for me. Over this last year, I pretty much had no attachment to her.
Three days ago at work, she asked if she could talk to me and I said yes. To make a long story short, she has started Therapy for co-dependence. (Didn't know she was co-dependent) She said, she knew she could talk to me and I would understand; she asked me not to share with anyone else in the salon as other's had no idea how she felt but she felt I would. She talked for over an hour. Called me at home Wed. night and talked and talked and talked. Text me last night asking if I knew certain co-dependent teacher's/therapist's, etc. In the end of the text she thanked me and said I am grateful I can talk to you and I trust your opinion. I AM BLOWN AWAY. I didn't write sooner as I think I have been in shock.
One of the things she asked me is "do I feel safe?" My response was "most of the time; but it has taken years to get to this point." She shared her fear of vulnerability and the shame she felt. This is truly amazing to me.
When I attended Unity Village years ago to become a Licensed Teacher I was presented the following question in a class; it was statements Jesus had said. What does it mean to  "Lay down your life so you may pick it back up again?" Then...I had no idea. But now, I feel this is what I have been doing for the past 35 years...laying down my old ways, my old belief's, my old behavior's only to pick up my "new life." I am actually being born again so to speak; born anew. I believe as long as I am here on this earthly plane, I will continue to lay down my old life so that I may pick up my new life. I was presented with a great lesson again when I found myself judging the kindest man by his appearance. What a valuable lesson.
Amazing Grace strikes again!

Amen!!!

Wow, Vicki, so much great stuff in this journal. I have often prejudged people on appearance and then been pleasantly surprised! I love the reminder not to judge. I also think your experience at work struck a real chord with me. Usually the grumpiest/aggressive/moody people are actually not having a great life at that time. I apply this to my last teacher helper who was a nightmare! It reminds me that compassion is a good trait to have.
I think it is such a compliment to you that she trusted and shared all of this with you.

I\'m beginning to understand that grumpy people or ones with negative attitudes arre the ones that most need some compassion and kindness. Good for you Vicky...these lessons seem to happen with a gathering momentum. don\'t they
much love and gentle hugs to you
