Am I moving too fast??
Having been diagnosed with depression for years, I know that when in its power, I can't make good judgments about how I'm really doing. I wonder if I'm really recovering faster than normal folks or do I just think I am. After only 3 weeks, I am already aware that I need to re-find the essence of who I really am or was before I married and became so submerged in my husband's strong personality. Yet I want to remember all the good things he taught me, too. I am trying to start a new life. Is it too soon? I still cry often, several times each day, but I don't seem to be having as severe a time as the folks in the postings. Is it because I'm shallow or is it because we knew for months that my husband did not have long to live and I processed through a lot of grieving before my husband actually died. I'm still not willing to go through his clothes and other items, but I am thinking of how I'd like to redecorate the house. In fact, one of the first things I did was to rearrange the den where we spent most days. It was set up for his wheelchair to have space and I wanted the room to look different and not remind me of him. I sleep in a different room than we shared the night he died and I try just not to think about my loss. Maybe I'm in denial. I'm just not sure. Hate to think that others are looking at me and deciding whether I'm getting better at an acceptable rate or that I'm moving too fast and therefore didn't really love my husband. But sometimes I wonder if the shock of having a whole chapter of my life over is what I'm really mourning. Certainly I believe in an afterlife and I wouldn't want to have my husband back in the awful physical shape he was in. He was so tired of being sick and helpless. Yet as Spring arrives, I know how much he wanted to see it this year and it breaks my heart.
