Am I dreaming?
Wow - Last night we gave T permission to stay out an extra hour (it was his b-day) because he deserved the privilege. He came home, on time, and told my hubby (I was sleeping already) that he had a ball. He said he had so much fun at his friend's house - clean fun. He even had a glow in the dark wrist band. This morning he wasn't in his bed, but we didn't panic. I started to question myself if we should have given him any money for his b-day and that we were fooled by his good behavior. Well, we called him. He said he couldn't sleep and had gone out on a bike ride and was watching the sunrise. About a half hour later he came home, got a water bottle, a sketch pad and a blanket so that he could draw. When he was using he didn't behave this way. He seems okay. Having said all that......I am a little suspicious - who knows how long he's been up this mornging -seems too good to be true -......it isn't "normal" for him or any other teen to get up at the crack of dawn.....maybe something IS going on maybe NOT ......BUT.......I am not wigging out about it. If he is back to using, but is being extremely careful about showing any signs of it.......I CANNOT control what he does. I am learning detachment with love on another level. We just finished our final parenting class and it reinforced what I have learned along the way. I HAVE COME A LONG WAY...... Even the instructor commented on it. She met us back last year (around T's b-day) and she recalled how bad off we were and how bad T was. T broke our front window.....smashed it because he was angry that he didn't get the $100.00 he's used to getting for his b-day (gift certificates instead), swore at me, flipped me the bird, and then left for a few days. This year.....he still got gift certificates again with a little cash....but this time he hugged us and thanked us! What a year it has been. Out of bad things come good. Good things have happened.....we met tons of awesome people.....helping and supportive .....people where we live and people on this site...... Thank you! **Just added today - hubby e-mailed me to tell me that a significant amount of money is missing from his glove box in his car. It was dumb that he left it there but last night our son was sitting in that car and left an AA paper in its place. We don't want to accuse him, yet, because my husband wasn't sure if our oldest locked the car after he picked up T. Our oldest is extremely careful about locking things and turning off lights etc (sometimes even when people are still in the room) so we don't think he forgot. Not good..... but we still have to wait to ask him before we say anything to T. T's behavior does not indicate to us that he's using - except for touching base recently with a drug using friend) so guess we will just have to wait.
