Alone on thanksgiving

I've always had friends and family to spend holidays with. Except for this year. When I moved to Florida to stay near my kids I knew that I would basically be starting over far from my family, but close to my kids. This year the kids will be with her. I'll have them over on Friday. But on thanksgiving I'll be alone. I'll make a nice dinner so that we can just heat it up and not spend our Friday together cooking.

I need to recap all the things Im thankful for. I could get down and just wallow in it, but Id rather take a more positive approach. In no particular order, I am thankful for my life. Even tIhough I am and have been stuck in divorce purgatory for the last couple of years, I am still thankful for all the wonderful memories I have from the marriage from when it was good. I am thankful for my children, my Lord they wouldn't even exist had I not married, so I have no regrets. I am thankful that the Good Lord above has shown me kindness and grace even though I have not earned or deserved it. I am thankful for the giftings He has bestowed upon me - some musical talent, the many trips foreign and domestic to see more of the world than just where I live, a bit of an intellect to deal with the challenges that life throws at us, some wonderful friends brothers and sisters, even though they are all very far away. And more, much more.

I'll be honest- on thanksgiving Id rather not be alone, but I'll just have to fight the blues and stay positive. We are working on some new music for Christmastime at church so I can spend some time on that. And cook. And watch football. I'll fight the depressing thoughts and just keep on keeping on.

Happy Thanksgiving to you.
