Almost Missed It
I almost missed it. I almost missed Thanksgiving! It must be due to lack of a calendar. Oh, I have a calendar,,,a small pocket one that I usually keep in my billfold, but now keep under the computer screen. Calendars come in many forms such as tapestries, movable blocks, date books, schedules, daily reminders. But what I needed was a wall calendar. I've had them for years, but never bought one. There was always a charity or the city that would one. Nobody sent one last year so I didn't have one. But I seldom used them regularly. It might be April before I changed from January. They always had the holidays, the major ones easy to remember, the 4th of July, Christmas, etc, but there were movable holidays like Veteran's day, Memorial day,,,Easter, and Thanksgiving. These don't come on a particular date. Ads on t.v. and in the newspapers and mail, warn us of a holiday coming up. But, with businesses, Thanksgiving gets lost, going from Halloween directly to Christmas. Looking on my small pocket calendar, I saw that there were 2 Thurdays left in the month which meant I had another week to buy the Thanksgiving dinner. WRONG! Thanksgiving comes on the 4th Thursday of the month and the 2 Thursday I saw was the 5th one. It was an ad for my grocery store that got me searching for the right date since it was selling turkeys. I had to go on the internet to find the date. So, this Saturday's trip to the grocery will be for Thanksgiving. At least Christmas has a date.
