Aging parent slipping away

How dose anyone ever get through seeing their parents get older and less able than they used to be?  I am having such a hard time watching my mother's health go down and knowing that it probley won't be to long before she is gone.  I sit here and cry and think no God no,.... please I am not ready for you to take her..... please no!  I treasure the moments we get to spend together.....and try to make them extra special for her and me too....creating good memories (memories worth more than gold).  I just for the life of me don't know how anyone gets through this stage of life that is so hurtful.

Think of it as passing through a door into another room. There she will wait for you and love you till its your turn to join her. As she did for her mum before her. Pass her love and memories through to those who will follow you and make new ones for them.

I lost my Dad 4+ years ago. Fortunately his final days came somewhat quickly so we only had a few days of struggling through the decline with him. I was just glad to be there to help him through the final transition. I was also glad that over the years, though living at a distance, I spent as much time with them and did all I could to make their lives better and more enjoyable.

Now I am caring for my Mom as she ages. She is doing OK, but it is sad to see her less and less able to do even the simplest of things. Again, I am glad I am able to be here to enjoy what time I have left with her and make her remaining days as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

I\'m not sure one ever \"gets over\" losing their parents. I brought my silly self to tears just typing this. I think it is good therapy, though, to remember, and thankfully like you I have fond memories to fall back on, and I\'ll have no regrets that I didn\'t do enough for them while they were with me.
