against MY better judgement
The judge, last week, said that he was placing our son on house arrest instead of locking him up - "against my better judgement" he said. Well, his better judgement, I believe, would have been wrong because T is doing very well right now. He's getting up in the morning very easily, he's well-behaved, he's doing his HOMEWORK, and he's going to bed at a decent hour. It's the BEST he's EVER been. Still he wants medication for concentration. I took him to the doctor and Wellbutrin was prescribed for his ADD (since he's an addict an ADD med is out) and for his "depression". He also suggested a mood stabilizer! A MOOD STABILIZER!! For his POSSIBLE BIPOLAR!! Now I'm losing faith in psychiatrists! My friend, a medical doctor and in recovery, told me that his doctor did the same thing. He kept insisting that my friend had bipolar!! I know for a fact that my son doesn't have it. Even though this doc is prescribing for ADD and depression, just the mere fact that he is suggesting it could be a possibility is WAY off base. Maybe it's because I mentioned that my two of my mother's siblings had bipolar. Immediately - he jumps to that. A 15 minute conversation and he's got it figured out. Having said that.........T wants to try the medication. His counselor and caseworker think he should try it. The side effects - even headache and stomachache side effects don't sit well with me because he's been off from school so many days with these symptoms. I realize that he may have had these issues because he may have depression, but I doubt it. I am not even sure about that one. I KNEW my other son had it - no if, ands, or buts....but....when T is sober - he's pleasant, calm, easy to talk to, laughs. I am not the "expert" but I think he's down because he's on house arrest without any freedoms! He really doesn't seem down to me. But ......like I've advocated.....people can hide depression but - again - there aren't any noticeable symptoms. So.....against my better judgement....I am going to have him try it. If anything, it could help his concentration and it's supposed to help his cigarette cravings. Maybe I will be wrong like the judge! So we'll see........

You know, my son\'s doctor tried to say he was bipolar also since it runs in my family. I told him that I have lived with him for all these years and think I\'d know if he was like any of my family members with the disorder. He does have ADD and is on Wellbutrin too.
He went back to rehab last week, but only stayed 1 day. Decided yesterday to do it again and be successful this time. So I brought him back today. He hasn\'t used for 9 days and is thinking more clearly. I hope he completes it this time.
Glad T is doing good on house arrest. Sometimes it helps them get the real things that matter back into focus. Hope keeps doing well.
I haven\'t been thru this and will be honest with you...don\'t want to. I hope for your sake that this turns out to your advantage. What I\'m not understanding is why they\'re insisting on giving him more drugs when he\'s already in trouble for taking them in the first place! Interesting! The system once again is dysfunctional I guess huh? I\'m sorry you\'ve got to go thru this. It sounds very stressful for you. I deal w/my husband that\'s bipolar and know how awful that is to deal with. It is encouraging that he\'s doing well in school and getting up etc.... I do know that ADD meds can be used for other things like staying up all night and such. That\'s probably why they wouldn\'t give him that. I\'ve seen people close to me use it for that. Not a good thing to get addicted to. Taking the freedom away would def get to anyone and that wouldn\'t be depression that meds could fix. That\'s a \"depression\" he caused and only time and good behavior can fix. Hugs hon.
