After forty years of smoking,,,I quit
Dear smoker...or struggling ex-smoker:
I am writing this because I was where you are. I finally was able to quit smoking in 1999. It was not because I did not like to smoke. I loved to smoke. It helped me control my weight, I felt better, ...I just liked smoking. Back then the social enigma was not quite as bitter as it is now. But it was starting.
I quit like I started. If I wanted a cigarette I would promise myself one in ten minutes. If I forgot in ten minutes I got one when I remembered. I started this in the morning and because I was busy at work, I would forget and it would be twenty minutes. Soon it became thirty. I did this for about two or three weeks. I bought my cigarettes by the pack since then I would have to get in the car and go to the store specifically to get a PACK of cigarettes. And then finally I set a date. I bought that pack of smokes and made them last me as long as I could to reach that date to stop. Did it work the first time? NO. I did this approximately three times. I even quit for 3 months once and my Dad passed away....I used that as an excuse to start smoking. Its strange the reasons we use to start back smoking. So I decided then and there that there were no good reasons to continue to smoke. I wrote down all the reasons I needed and wanted to quit. I read and re-read those reasons. I reminded myself constantly why I wanted to NOT SMOKE. I finally was able to quit.
You not only have to convince yourself to quit, you have to convince that subconscious to quit too. And to to that you have to be pretty repetitive since it just sets there and does things by root. So change your root thought and see yourself as a non-smoker and an added bonus,,,,THIN. And by the way, my reasons for quitting was not because of the social enigmas or harassments., because of the health issues..its was GREED. I simply could not pay out all that money for cigarettes. Pick a good reason and stick to it.
THE VERY BEST FROM ME TO YOU.
