Affirmation for September 22, 2010: Goodbye, Summer
Fall is officially here, but before we jump into a new season, we would like to pay one last tribute to summer with a quote from Lesa, who chose our Summer Affirmation: "The question is not who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me."

"Now for the thanks for your votes for the AYN RAND quote! We won and I ordered a shirt this morning! I'm putting it back as my status for a few days to thank you all for voting.
When I was diagnosed with GBS and found myself unable to walk that quote was appropriate. I was told to expect months of physical therapy and that the outcome would depend mainly on my attitude. My neurologist said attitude would do more than any meds he would give me. I learned to walk again and got back to work....only to relapse and get the chronic diagnosis. Most of us here at DS are in a difficult struggle with some sort of health problem, or have a relative who is. We come here to find support and just as importantly to try to encourage other members in their struggle. Every single time we reach out we get a little lift in the process. When we use DS as it was meant to be used it's a powerful tool. The strength we get through the process lets us keep fighting on the dark days. There is always someone here to encourage you. I've met the most amazing,courageous, compassionate people I've ever known here. I think of the stories behind each screen name...and we're all bound together by DS."
