Affirmation for September 2, 2011: Learn to Be Inspired
A mind is a fire to be kindled, not a vessel to be filled.- Plutarch
Thought of the Day:
For those of us beginning school or starting something new, the first steps can come off as extremely challenging. Whether we bombard our minds with new terminology, complicated procedures, or the like, it is so easy to feel swamped and over stimulated with all this new information. We look to our left and to our right and it seems everyone is getting the material much easier than ourselves.
Realize that everyone's minds work differently. Although, in some ways, education can seem like a competition against classmates, we should keep in mind that education is for our own enlightenment - to nurture our own minds. It's an individual effort for an individual gain. The competition shouldn't bring us down, but encourage us to work harder. If that environment isn't preferred, just watch yourself grow. More information doesn't always mean smarter. A more sound and mature mind brings about a stronger sense of self-confidence. Finding this confidence in knowledge is only one way of many to bring ourselves to that next level. Feel inspired, not overwhelmed.
Cheers!

Today would have been my mother\'s 91st birthday...had she not died in 2002.
A couple of months ago, my Aunt sent me the original of my mother\'s birth certificate. I read it over, and to my surprise, from the time I was born until the day she died, we celebrated her birthday on September 1st. Her birth certificate lists her time and date of birth as 12:39 AM, September 2nd, 1920. All my life we thought that she was born on Septembr 1st, as my grandmother went into labor that night, however, no one was looking at the clock or the birth certificate and thus, no one noticed that her birthday was September 2nd. Now, the point is moot because she is dead.
