Affirmation for October 30, 2012: Artistic Catharsis
Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time. Thomas Merton
Thought of the Day:
It was Freud who popularized the therapeutic effects of catharsis. An emotional release can release us from the tight grip our anxieties can trap us into. It's just finding that healthy way of releasing our stress that can be a challenge; and more importantly, it can be difficult to release that stress in a way that allows us to express our feelings and regather our senses.
Art can take many forms - writing a letter, creating a picture, and even moving our bodies in various expressive ways. Self expression isn't silly or weakening. It can liberate us in a way that allows us to move on.
