Affirmation for October 21, 2010: Horses
The wagon rests in winter, the sleigh in summer, the horse never.- Yiddish ProverbThought of the day:Do you love horses? Have you ever ridden one? There is something about the image of a "dependable steed" that calms people, and makes them feel like they have a friend. If you've never ridden a horse, maybe now is the time to try something new and find a ranch where you can learn to ride one! It sounds like a wacky idea, but it could just be the wacky idea you need right now.Have an exciting day!TeamDS

I have loved horses since I was a small child. The way they look, feel, and smell even! Such beautiful creatures. I rode as often as I could...friend\'s horses and at a couple of places that did trail rides for a fee. I couldn\'t get enough of them! I even collected Bryers model horses for yrs....and still have them. But my most favorite thing about horses, has nothing to do with me personally. My daughter was born 10 weeks early, had a brain bleed that resulted in cerebral palsy. When she was two yrs old, I found a therapeutic riding class, and took her there. They had never tried with a child so young, but gave her a chance. Put her on this wonderful horse named April, with a back rider to hold her in place. They said, maybe 15 min, we\'ll know if she likes it, but we\'re concerned she\'ll be afraid of something so large.....45 min later, they dismounted, and my baby CRIED....she didn\'t want to get off!! She was very verbal, and cried that I\'d never bring her back! I promised her I would, signed her up, and she\'s been riding ever since! She is now a 22 yr old Sr in college, currently looking for an adult program we can afford. Therapeutic riding did more for her (both physically and mentally) than any other type of therapy she\'s ever been in. With cerebral palsy, the muscles can get very tight and spastic...when she dismounts after an hour in the saddle, she is like a noodle! The affect lasts for days. Therapeutic riding is not just for those with physical difficulties like my daughter, but also emotional, and mental disabilities. Kids (and adults) with down\'s syndrome, MD, MS, adhd, and any number of other difficulties can benefit from therapeutic riding. It is a beautiful thing to see an extremely shy, withdrawn child to mount that horse, and be in control....the joy on their faces is unbelievable!! SO many benefits to this type of therapy, it would take pages for me to tell how wonderful it is. Chances are there is a program in your area! Thanks for posting this!
Yes, thanks for posting this! It\'s given me a few ideas...
my friend just invited me today to ride her horse. I need to follow through with it and actually do just that!
