Affirmation for May 21, 2010: Make Something New

One machine can do the work of fifty ordinary men.  No machine can do the work of one extraordinary man.-Elbert Hubbard, The Roycroft Dictionary and Book of Epigrams, 1923Thought of the day:Most of us know how to manipulate our computers, our smartphones, our DVRs, exactly the way we want. A few taps on the keyboard, or a few presses of a button gets us the results we want, almost immediately. However, it's important not to lose the magic of crafting something with bare hands-- making something physical that has never existed before, owning a piece of your own creativity that isn't just a customized model of pixels and microchips that every other household owns.Projects to create physical things like origami, clay sculptures, green bean gardens, wooden towel holders, maybe even a scarf, can get our minds and our bodies moving in a way that departs from our current culture of sitting for hours in front of a computer and tapping away. Don't let your fine motor skills go to waste!Have an extraordinary day!TeamDS
