Affirmation for July 15, 2010: Gardening (urban)

There can be no other occupation like gardening in which, if you were to creep up behind someone at their work, you would find them smiling.- Mirabel OslerThought of the day:Many people swear by gardening as their own personal form of meditation, their own life's work, their own source of happiness. There must be something to it, this activity that invites us to cultivate, care for, and work towards something so beautiful, and so good for the environment! In urban neighborhoods like Detroit, San Francisco and New York, people are taking to growing their own food on skyrise rooftops and land lots. Check out Urban Farming which is dedicated to eradicate hunger by optimizing the production of unused land for food. http://www.urbanfarming.orgHave a productive day!TeamDS

Our church has started a community garden at a low income project. The garden was started by church members cultivating the soil, cleaning out the debris from the soil and planting the basic vegetables. This was done as a \"Change The World\" project. Not long after this was begun, more and more people from the housing project has taken it upon themselves to weed, plant seeds of their own and take over overall maintenance of the garden. This was kinda the plan, I think, to show them what can be done and what they can do to help. They will be the ones to reap the harvest of what has grown and it also teaches them so much. And I too, in my very own little garden, are rewarded with the tranquility of participating in and helping evolve what God started. One of the best places to be is in the garden, dirty fingernails and all. You are so right Team DS.

I have started a new venture of growing silk floss trees and I agree gardening is so beneficial in many ways and after all our Heavenly Father wanted us to work the land...every person I sell a tree to is so happy and excited to get this beautiful tree!
