Affirmation for January 4, 2012: Getting Art
The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance. Aristotle
Thought of the Day:
Often times it's hard to see the significance of art. We see a painting of a field and, sure, it's pretty and all, but we don't understand the meaning.
Not all art has a meaning. You don't need to "get" all art. Sometimes - a lot of the time - art is a depiction of a vision caught by the artist. It is through the eyes of the creator of a piece that we see his or her world.
This speaks to our personal journies. It isn't the list of accomplishments we make or the outward appearance that many people "get". People who have deep connections with each other hardly connect on the surface alone. It's the deeper meaning and story of that connection that make it special and lasting. Every moment in our lives hold significance and a unique tie to our view of our own lives. Don't let anyone or anything put down your journey - because quite honestly, they just don't "get" it.
