Affirmation for January 31, 2011: Mantras

When I go biking, I repeat a mantra of the day's sensations:  bright sun, blue sky, warm breeze, blue jay's call, ice melting and so on.  This helps me transcend the traffic, ignore the clamorings of work, leave all the mind theaters behind and focus on nature instead.  I still must abide by the rules of the road, of biking, of gravity.  But I am mentally far away from civilization.  The world is breaking someone else's heart.- Diane AckermanThought of the day:As we ease out of January and into February, the theme for today is mantras. To Diane Ackerman, the world around her is her mantra as she bikes further and further from her troubles, if only temporarily. Mantras can follow you wherever you go, and it's important to master the art of the mantra so that you can, at your worst moments, escape to a place of peace. This way, your mind and body can recharge, and energize itself to face the toughest challenges. We are celebrating mantras with our Winter Affirmation Contest: What's Your Mantra? Enter as many times as you like, and share with our members how you maintain your inner calm!Have a meditative day!TeamDS
