Affirmation for February 18, 2011: Marfan Syndrome Awareness Month

How glorious it is - and also how painful - to be an exception.
- Louis Charles Alfred de Musset, French writer (1810-1857)
Thought of the day:
Every one of us is a unique individual. Delilah, a radio personality in California, once asked her listeners to look at the tips of their fingers. That fingerprint is found nowhere else in the world - even identical twins have their own fingerprints.
This February, we support Marfan Syndrome Awareness Month. Marfan Syndroms is a disorder that affects the body's connective tissue, and people with the syndrome are usually characterized with long limbs and hyperflexibility in their joints. They also may have a slightly curved spine, and the reach of their arms may be longer than their heights. Heart, lung, skin, eye, and bone tissue are affected, which raises the risk for heart-related complications. Marfans can drastically affect the day-to-day life of many who suffer from it, and because of the range of symptoms, is often difficult to treat.
Each of us facing a disorder or syndrome call ourselves unique, even though the challenges may seem greater. What makes us different is what makes us beautiful, because it forces us to show our spirit and discover what we're truly made of.
Have a gorgeous day!
