Affirmation for February 11, 2011: Souls

Nowhere can man find a quieter or more untroubled retreat than in his own soul.- Marcus Aurelius, MeditationsThought of the day:Do you believe in a soul? A spirit within each of us that transcends time and space, and carries with it our very essense, beyond what our bodies and the chemicals in our brains hold? Some believe that everything has a soul, even animals and plants. Others believe that a soul is ever-living, and that even in death, there is only the death of the body, but the soul of a person simply travels to a different place. What is a soul to you?Have a thoughtful day!TeamDS

I believe that everything has a soul. I have been told that the soul is actually the body. The spirt is the life force that is relased at the time of death. We all have a spirt in our soul(body)The spirt remains with us until the body dies. I believe the spirit is eternal. What happens to the spirt when we die is still a mystery. I believe that the spirit goes to a place of peace, love and restoration. I call that place Heaven.

I believe with the Bible says regarding the soul. Genesis 2:7: \"And God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breathe of life, and the man became a living soul.\" Notice that the Bible states that man became a living soul, and not that man was given a soul. So I believe that in our complete form we are souls. Further see Ezekiel 18:4 \"Look! All the souls--to me they belong. As the soul of the father so likewise the soul of the son--to me they belong. The soul that is sinning--it itself will die.\" Notice here God states in his Bible that souls die. So I believe that when you are alive you are a living soul, and when you die, you are a dead soul. As to what death is like, the Bible also answers this question. See Ecclesiastes 9: \"For the living are conscious that they will die, but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.\" Just like when you are in a deep sleep, you don\'t know anything, you are not uncomfortable, nor scared, nor angry, or cold, nor nothing, you are just sleeping, until that time when Jesus will resurrect the dead as stated in John 5:28, 29. This is what I believe about the soul, and I find this truth very comforting.

I believe we are souls with a body! Our souls are the essence of who we are. It gives me great comfort knowing this. For our bodies are temporal but our soul is eternal. So all the pain, hurts , fatigue, sickness will one day die with my body, but my soul bieng the light and essence of who I really am will \"shed\" this body and be set free to Be with God our maker , and there will be no pain, or tears, or fears. No one will suffer, or be without we will be in the light and glory of the giver of life. and to me that is an amazing and comforting thing to know. God is so much more interested in our eternal being than oue temporal being. I am working on my soul being more my focus than my sick body. and while I know only God knows the time our soul will depart our bodies, i am excited for that day and will run the race until then and hopefully be of comfort and support to others on this physical journey called life!!

To be honest I don\'t know what \"soul\" is. The more I think about it the more abstract it becomes. Maybe \"thinking\" isn\'t the answer. It is something that is \"intuited\".
The quote above, confuses me as any retreat into myself (be it soul or otherwise) lends itself to more confusion. But then I am a \'troubled or damaged \'soul\' \" - My sense of self was destroyed long ago. So maybe soul encompasses \"sense of self\". I do have a sense of \"something\". But what it is I haven\'t clue.

The other way I might identify what soul means is through the term \"soul mate\".
Now, my interpretation of soul mate was - meeting someone that I connected with that was some extention of myself or maybe even the \"other half of myself\". Even, again, intuited rather than thought about, albeit it\'s difficult not to \"think\". Sometimes, for me, \"thinking\" destroys the essence of such ethereal matters.
I was told later by a Hindu that we can have many soul mates when I previously thought I could only have one. So what does that mean in terms of finding \"another part of me\" ?

Since all this, I have come to realise that something exists within me, something pure (and idealistic) some sense of \"perfection\". Terminologies such as \"higher self\" seem appropriate to this thinking.
So whether the soul is connected to the higher self idea I don\'t know.

I sometimes think \"soul\" is a holistic term, in that it embraces all aspects of my \"self\" including the physical - as \" a male\". And then it could embrace my \"feminine side\".

What does \"he is a lonely soul\" mean?

Gaia suggests that all has life, even rocks are \"alive\" which makes sense with regards to crystals and their possible healing qualities. So does a crystal have a soul or is that purely scientific in terms of \"energy\" properties.

Chi - \"universal energy\" - might have soul. And this makes sense with something pure.

if I had to conclude what soul means it would have something to do with knowledge of everything, or perfection, intuited or otherwise.
Reincarnation suggests that souls are on a journey to enlightenment through learning, rebirth, and many life experiences.
This lends itself to having \"total understanding\". Which is similar to perfection.

Maybe language is a barrier to any undestanding because \"soul\" is a label and can then possibly be categorised, like I am trying to do now.

When really it might be better that I left definitions well alone and let intuition sense what it is.. and not put a name to it, or define it. And let it remain pure and untouched by human thought. Just sensed. And let my \"soul\" get on with whatever it has to do.

Good topic. It has made me think. But then maybe thinking is not what i have to do.

D\'oh! What have I done? I have gone away and thought about it.

I thought of \"soul music\" and \"they put their heart and soul into it\".

Soul music makes more sense to me.. music that has soul. Blues, Miles Davis, Simon and Garfunkel, early Leonard Cohen.. Suzanne..(my choices any way).

And I cannot explain why...maybe because it transends thought.

I think of God as being good without the \"o\" (original sin). All of us souls are made to the likeness of God, so we can be close to perfection. Yet none of us is perfect. Like Rsimmons, I found this very comforting.
