I like that thought...Choosing arguments. How much time we waist in the pointless arguments.., why is it so hard to let it be...After all life is so short I wish I would learn to think before I speak.. That would be a kind of progress.
Hello Doug - I am, among other things (teacher, luthier, voice talent), a violinist. My teacher, Sherry Kloss, was Mr. Heifetz\'s Master Class Assistant during the \'`1970\'s when he was teaching in southern California. Sherry also studied with Mr. Heifetz. Sherry\'s job was to prepare - through technical exercises and repertoire study - the students who would later appear before Mr. Heifetz.
The quote above, from what I have read about Mr. Heifetz (which is ALWAYS
how Sherry refers to him), what I have seen of him on film, and from Sherry\'s
anecdotes, sounds very much like something Mr. Heifetz would say.
An incidental note: Jascha Heifetz debuted in Carnegie Hall in 1917, using
a violin made by Tononi. In his will, Mr. Heifetz willed this instrument (which
I have actually touched!) to Sherry Kloss. He later, of course, moved on to his
prized Guarneri and Stradivari instruments, which he played in public performance until 1972.
While there are films of his playing available through sites that musicians might be more familiar with (though you may be a musician), in the \"public
domain\", he can be seen in the 1939 film \"They Shall Have Music\" (playing the 4th Movement of the Mendelssohn Vioin Concerto), and also in the promo film \"Heifetz and Piatogorsky\" (Heifetz\'s cellist friend and chamber music partner - along with Rubinstein, the pianist) that can sometimes be found in
the \"Special Interest\" sections of corporate behemoths like Blockbuster.
