Affirmation for December 17, 2010: Forgiveness

Forgiving is love's toughest work, and love's biggest risk.  If you twist it into something it was never meant to be, it can make you a doormat or an insufferable manipulator.  Forgiving seems almost unnatural.  Our sense of fairness tells us people should pay for the wrong they do.  But forgiving is love's power to break nature's rule.- Lewis B. SmedesThought of the day:They say to "love thine enemy," and let's be honest-- this seems absolutely absurd in some cases. Some of our enemies have done us so much harm, and so much hurt.It seems Lewis understands this, and in the name of love, he believes it is something to undertake anyway. A controversial topic, to be sure, especially with some of the experiences our DailyStrength members have been through. But even if you cannot forgive your enemies, you must always strive to forgive and love yourself. You are a precious gem in this world, and you should always be sure that no matter what tarnish may have afflicted your shine, you constantly remind yourself of your incredible value.Have a loving day!TeamDS
