Easily said, then done. Giving myself permission is a BIG thing. I don’t give permission to others (sometimes, I do - rarely) which keeps my tolerance level, to a minimum, NOT a good thing. I think it is wise to give oneself space to explore and make mistakes so one can grow from it. As I have grown older (in age) I have not challenged myself enough. Excuses, excuses, excuses have gotten in the way. THEN, I think back on all the missed opportunities and the regrets. Having grown up in a bubble makes one very protective of themselves from outside “variables.” I have seen so much ugliness out there and I am protecting myself from that. I wonder if this protection is preventing me from experiencing, making mistakes, interacting with others and finding my own way (growing). I guess it’s time to go outside. On another note, be kind to yourself, be kind to others, have respect for your environment - hopefully, they will be kind back. Take Care.

I agree 100% with you there. I have made so many mistakes over the years. I try to avoid doing anything till late at night with my husband Jerry. To avoid making more bad mistakes. I also avoid people to keep from letting them know how I really am feeling inside and what I am feeling like.

I was told many years ago I was a people person, that is I did better when I was around people. Now that I am 68 I am finding it very.hard to get motivated anymore. Though if I get around people and there something going on I find myself helping out.

I hope that someday I.can get back.to the way I was when I was younger.

With a spirit of learning, it is impossible to fail. You either learn or you succeed.

Oh Artie.....Does the word failure come to mind? One sometimes becomes static in life because it is better not to try so they do not fail. Or, on the other hand, one does not try because they are afraid to succeed - but that is another state of mind. I do believe that we all should keep our childlike curiosity about life - always questioning, and not taking things at face value. So, with the genuine interest in learning, IS a good thing. There will always be a possibility of failing but I think that is in the application of what one learns and applying it to life experiences. (Did that make any sense?)

LindaandJer,
It’s funny that you say you wait until late at night. I find my peace and quiet, at night - where I can focus on what I need to do. After 25 years of marriage, “I” have MY chores/tasks and my husband has his. At this point, we know what we are good at, so we don’t mess with each other’s areas of expertise (like taking care of the car repairs) It’s better that way. Eh, being young is over-rated. :-) I wouldn’t want to go back there. It’s re-igniting the spark of interest you have about life. Find the fun. Find the joy - and go for it. How much time are we going to be living on this planet - we don’t know? So, let’s get out there and enjoy what we can. Take Care.

Yes. We should learn from mistakes not only from yourself but also from others. And then we can grow.

Oh, if only we humans COULD learn better from our own and others mistakes, eh? We would have a beautiful, peaceful, harmonious world! Smile.

Ta for the lovely saying. I think it's super important to remind ourselves to keep striving for more.

It’s funny when you say we should learn from our mistakes - I agree BUT history tends to repeat itself. And, humans, in general, have a short memory.. It’s a wicked circle. It is MOST saddening when there is information out there that CERTAIN people manipulate so others get confused about what is true and what is false. If your memory can retain what has happened in the past and can “decipher” what people are saying and doing now - clarity will rise and you’ll know who is speaking the truth.

I have always liked the saying, “Less is More.” - when creating space, the physical kind. :-) When you say, “striving for more,” Do you mean more stuff? More useful knowledge? More kindness? More love? More peace? The good stuff - the answer is yes. I’m at that age when letting go of things is stress reducing - SIMPLIFY and less clutter. But that’s just me.

For me, learning is a life-long experience. At 70 I've learned one important lesson: there is no such thing as failure.
Life is not a black-or-white issue. There's a lot of space in the middle of the road. Try to live each day as though it is your last.
Peace.

I think as human beings, we do not stop learning. I like your statement that says, try to live each day each day as through it is your last.

I can relate, raised in a home where mistakes were not allowed in scared to take risks and experience life. Meditation has helped some. I like how you question protection as limiting. Thanks for sharing this.

How do you feel about the fact that a man cheats on his wife? I personally think that both are to blame, since the wife should be responsible for the intimacy and satisfaction of her husband. And if he changes you means something is wrong with you, who agrees? For entertainment, usually men use this service.
