Affirmation for August 10, 2010: Nostalgia

Keep a thing seven years and it's bound to come in handy.- Russian ProverbThought of the day:Are you a packrat? Do you have piles of things in the basement, or boxes full of things from years, maybe even decades ago?If you answered yes to these questions, can you also explain what makes you keep these things? Is it the memories or the nostalgia? Perhaps the thought that perhaps you will need these things someday? There's something romantic in the mentality of the packrat, giving truth to the saying "one person's trash is another person's treasure."  Keep a thing seven years, and it might just come in handy by giving you a much needed smile at an almost-forgotten memory...Have a nostalgic day!TeamDS

My former husband and I were - literally - remodeling our home for over 15 years. Many precious gifts, \"some day that will look good here\" purchases, and \"I just can\'t part with it yet\" boxes accumulated in the basement. Six years after the painful and ugly divorce that I did not want, and with both children now grown, married, and moved out, I recently left the family home of 35 years. A job transfer to another state and a much smaller house have prompted the sorting/going through activity that I conveniently delayed while in divorce-recovery mode. It is fun to recall fond memories, discover those new-again gifts...but mostly a relief to fill the charity boxes when I acknowledge to myself \"What the hell was I thinking?\" when I originally packed it away!

We all at one time or another go to the attic and gaze around and think what in the world was I thinking when I bought/saved this. Some love/hate feelings here.
