Affirmation for April 5, 2013: Being a Good Friend

A friend is one of the nicest things you can have, and one of the best things you can be.- Douglas Pagels
Thought of the day:
Friendships are a two-way street, and oftentimes being a good friend goes hand in hand with making friends.
While there are no hard-and-fast rules to being a good friend to anyone and everyone, here are a few tips that may describe a "good friend":
- Listening. When someone is having a bad day, and they feel comfortable enough to confide in you, listening and empathizing is a great way to make that person feel valued and important. It may sometimes seem natural to want to provide some advice, but just be sure that's what your friend needs at that moment.
- Checking in. Even though Facebook makes it so easy to passively learn what your friends are doing and the latest news, it is no replacement for a face-to-face or phone conversation.
- Make memories. Laughing together, crying together, experiencing something new together-- these are all memories with one theme in common: being together. Sharing time and remembering fun experiences are the glue that holds the strongest friendships together.
Have a friendly day!
